Brown 500ml bottle, best before end of Dec 2008, drank before end of Oct 2008. Poured into a UK pint sleeve glass. Pale orange, dull yellow, not quiet clear, a bit of a haze. Some of the yeasty sediment might have crept out during the pour. The head was well formed and stayed throughout the drink. Yeast and hops made up the aroma, what else should there be in an English Bitter? The taste was very hoppy (for a UK beer), this gave the beer an extra dry and bitter feel. Pleasant more than overpowering. The hoppiness and dry feel stayed into the aftertaste. A good bottled beer. --- Beer merged from original tick of RCH Pitchfork on 15 May 2012 at 13:59 - Score: Appearance - 6 | Aroma - 6 | Flavor - 7 | Texture - 6 | Overall - 7. Cask at the Plough and Harrow (JDW), Hammersmith. Bright amber with a loose white head; citrusy, fruity, aroma; rich with a fruity flavour - reminding me of apricot jam; the finish has biscuit and some zingy grapefruit. Very appealing, and excellent compromise between light golden ales and traditional bitter - the best of both.

More oranges on the nose and taste this time, maybe even apricot. The palate and overall effect is much better this time! Previous rating 19/06/11 6/4/7/4/14 = 3.5 50cl bottle. Pours a hazy golden with steady bubbles and a good head. The nose has pine and grapefruit. The taste has grapefruit pith, some floral notees, then a pine & pith finish. The palate medium bodied with a creamy texture and a fresh zingy finish. Overall, a tastey beer that could be sessioned too.

Cask at the Old Ship, Hackney, London on 6th October 2010. Hazy gold with thick creamy head of white foam giving some lacing. Yeast and hops in aroma then burst of grassy hop, touches of citrus and a little ash in-mouth. Hoppy finish that is quite dry and lasting. Fairly zingy mouthfeel.
