When one of our young amber ales met up with a cask from Maker’s Mark, sparks of love filled the air, and spurred twa of our dogs to howl at the moon in delight! The Parting Kiss is medium bodied with a velvet texture; the subtle caramel, toasted oak, malt & vanilla dance in the glass with just a touch of hops in a perfect union of suds.

A clear dark orange amber ale with a thin lacing mocha head. In aroma, sweet caramel malt with light bourbon barrel notes, woody notes, pleasant. In mouth, a nice sweet caramel malt with loads of woody bourbon notes, alcohol warmth, very nice. On tap at brewery.

Smells of fake raspberry notes and a hint of sweet malt. There's murky brown body and little foam. Flavour is chewy sweet maple and malt, bourbon forward. Flavourful but sweet. Very sugary on the mouth. There's nice flavours but they come across as untamed.

On tap at Victoria Caledonian, pours a deep dark amber with a small beige head. Aroma reveals lush bourbon barrels, followed by vanilla, and a touch of toasted caramel. Flavour isn't as pleasant, with mineraly bourbon upfront, a touch of vanilla, and seltzery notes. This isn't well dialed in. The bourbon smells nice, but it doesn't come through cleanly. Not so good.

Draft - Rich toffee and bourbon notes. Deep copper with a beige small head. Bourbon, wood and toffee. Bitter finish. Not bad.

Sept 2021 - updated rating. Much improved. 473 ml can. Pours a deep red/brown with light head. Aromas of sweet coppery malts, raisins/figs, and candi sugar. Flavors of bready malts, raisins, dry caramel, and copper. Not getting much oak. Nice Original 2017 rating - 650 ml bottle. Pours deep red/brown with a light head that dissipates quickly. Aromas of coppery sweet malts, dates/figs, green oak, and candi sugar. Flavors follow same but are unfortunately burdened with a very strong diacetyl presence. Parting Kiss...
