Warming, malty and fruity. Pale and amber malts contribute to a mouth-filling and satisfying Horlicks and biscuity maltiness. Challenger and First Gold give a base note of herbal hop and Fuggles as a late hop contributes the main fragrant fruity and floral and spicy notes. Fermented slowly to give just enough fruity esters Abbot Ale provides a complex, satisfying and warming experience.

Cask at London & County, Eastbourne. Nutty light aroma. Mahogany colour. Bit of a sweet mess in the taste. Not sure about this.

Cask at Prince of Wales, Cardiff. A very dark reddish-to-mahogany pour, rather hazy, with a minimal (but present) tan head. Aroma is caramel, red berries, gym locker-room, sweat. Sweatish onset, watery sip, rather bland. Abrupt, bitterless finish.

Pours a lightly hazed dark amber colour with a small, mostly lasting, foamy cream coloured head. The aroma is roasted malts, dark fruit and some hoppy notes. A moderately sweet taste, roasted malts, brown sugar, dark fruit, a brandy notes with a bitter finish.

Cask at Moon under Water, Wolverhampton. Pours a deep ruby with medium sized off-white head and good lacing. The aroma has malts and fudge plus hints of dried fruits. In the mouth there are dark fruits, raisins and treacle with some traditional hops and alcohol becoming evident later. Finish is slightly bitter and hoppy, with an alcoholic tinge. This is decent – packs a punch.

Cask up the White Lady. Pours clear amber with a thin beige head. Aromas of toffee and hazelnut. Taste is quite boozy, toffee again, dried fruit. Nutty finish. Returned to this several times and it really grew on me.
