Bottle 33 cl. Pours black with a vague reddish tint and a creamy, beige head leaving some lacework. Sweet roasty nose, quite some vanilla and aromatic hops. Rich body, sweet roast, candy like, bonbons and solid hops leaving quite a bitter finish. Rustic and well made. 120713

330ml bottle. Pitch black colour with huge, frothy to creamy, fairly lasting, moderately lacing, tan head. Excellent dark malty aroma, herbal hoppy overtones, a touch of smoke. Taste is smoky dark malty, initially with subtle sweetness, later dry, hints of roast, mocha, herbal hoppy overtones. Rich, complex, superb.

Bottle from Cotteridge Wines, Birmingham. Poured a dark mahogany with a big frothy tan head. The aroma is big roasted malt, smoke and dark chocolate. The flavour is rich medium bitter with bags of liqourice, roasted malt, chcolate and some alcohol inspired liqourice bitterness on the palate and in the finish. Another Brodies classic.

330ml bottle from Ales by Mail

Pours pitch black with a foamy white head. Nice aroma of roasted malts, licorice, leather, ham, smoke, ash and hints of sweet chocolate. Taste is malty, roasty and slightly smoked with notes of licorice, ash, syrup and chocolate. Finish is malty, sweetish and sugary with notes of rye, licorice, hints of smoke and roastiness. Okay, a bit unbalanced smoked porter.

Bottle at William IV (Magic Rock takeover) 10/12/12. Mid black, mahooosive frothy tan head. Nose is roast malt, light chocolate, touch of minerals, rye evident. Taste follows, roast malt backbone, dark sugars, touch of hops and pine, subtle smokiness, light soap. Medium bodied, light spritzy carbonation - a bit overcooked in this department for my liking, roast finish. Decent.
