American Amber Ale is the second-ever beer created by Rogue’s brewmaster John Maier back in 1988. This tawny amber brew with a toffee aroma, delicate roasted malt notes and smooth finish displays what beer judges call the “perfect embodiment of an American Amber Ale."
Ingredients: water, barley malt (Great Western 2-Row Malt, C40, C150), Cascade hops, Pacman yeast.

Bottled, named Sea Otter Amber Ale. Reddish brown, crystal clear with small head. Flowery aroma. Lightly roasty with hard, clean mouthfeel and a rugged very bitter finish.

A decent, well balanced ale. Mild and easy drinking. Medium bodied, mildly sweet. Roasty, with a crispness near the end. A good beer for any occassion.

This one came in the new bottle with a big American flag on it, and a notice that proceeds are being donated to charity. I understand they had to get special permission to use a flag on the bottle. On to the beer: Dark copper-brown, lightly sweet caramel-nut aroma. Light maltiness in flavor, clean and sweet. Solid bitterness in the back. Unusually crisp for a brown ale.

Big earthy, chewy malt to balance off those big hops. Is it just me, or does John Maier know what he's doing?
