American Amber Ale is the second-ever beer created by Rogue’s brewmaster John Maier back in 1988. This tawny amber brew with a toffee aroma, delicate roasted malt notes and smooth finish displays what beer judges call the “perfect embodiment of an American Amber Ale."
Ingredients: water, barley malt (Great Western 2-Row Malt, C40, C150), Cascade hops, Pacman yeast.

Deep amber body, medium/thin off-white head. Cerealy, bready aroma with complementary grassy hops. Typical toasty, bready malt backbone accentuated by grassy hops, but maintaining a malty, earthy presence on the whole. Some beers are simply boring, and this is one of those. Rogue can thank Ratebeer for my purchase, as this beer is a necessary rating, but not an intriguing sip.

Bottled. Hazy brown colour with beige foamy head. Hoppy halfsweet ctiric aroma with hints of caramel and flowers. Hoppy bitter flavour which turns into softer fruity hops in finish. Grapefruit in aftertaste.

Pour is deffinatly amber with a nice sized white head. Aroma is oily and hoppy. (Do all rogue beers smell this way?) Flavor is hoppy and deep malts. Pretty good but the only bad thing is that there are 5 other rogue beers that are almost the same.

22oz Bottle Pours a dark copper/amber with a nice light tan head that was thick and was quite persistant. Lacing is thick and sticky. Aroma is a sweet roasted malt and a good hops balance. Flavor is more hopy but again, seems to be balanced well. Feel is quite smooth and the finish is slightly bitter. An alaround good, robust amber.

A deep red beer with a small orange disappearing head. The aroma is extremely hoppy with notes of sweet malt, oil, and grass. The flavor is also very hoppy with notes of caramel, grass, and some burnt notes. The hops dries out the tongue. The body is thin, and all in all this beer is not in harmony, but it is still a fine beer.

Had as See Otter Amber Ale. Hazy brown ale with very nice hops, citrus and sweet malts. Nutty taste with hops/grapefruits coming very well. Well balnced between the roast and hops. Good bodied.

Dark reddish-brown color with a creamy light beige head. The lacing is sticky and has the consistency of soap suds. Aroma of roasted malt, fruit and hops. Medium-bodied with an odd fruity/metallic flavoring that takes away from the malt and hops that would otherwise make this one of the better Ambers available. The finish contains malt, hops and a touch of coffee. Overall this beer is not as bold as many of the other beers in their line, but it is still worthwhile to try.

Paid $3.89 for a 650 ml bottle. Nice amber color, with a soft fluffy beige head. Looks appealing. MMM smell... smells like an IPA. Lots of sweet citrus fruit mixed with coffee in there... I do LOVE this smell... I wish I had a candle that smelled exactly like this. Not overly crazy about the taste, or I should say aftertaste. Very hoppy, almost overly hoppy... It has an IPA taste going in, but finishes with a bit too much. Nice going in, not as nice going down. Drinkability is lowered because it's just too much. I may buy this beer again, but it'll be so I can whiff that pleasing aroma again. Reminds me a lot more of an ESB or IPA than an amber ale.

Very dark brown beer with a good frothy head, the aroma is very airy and a bit oatmeal as well. A very , very dry beer but quite refreshing.

Dark chestnut with reddish shine; slim yellow-brown head. Smell of American hops, crystal malt, cookies. very bitter; American noble and bitterhops. Lots of roasted malt, chocolate cake flavour. Bitterness gets metallic in the aftertaste. Long bittereffect. Nice hoppybeer, this. But I don't dig the difference between an A. amber and an IPA, drinking this. Bland, it certainly isn't.
