Bourbon Barrel Aged Dubbel

Released in celebration of our first anniversary, the name Evoluta represents both our evolution as a brewery in our first year of operation and the evolution of this beer as it aged 9 months in bourbon barrels. A balanced blend of fresh and barrel aged Belgian Style Dubbels. It pours a reddish brown with a persistent fine amber head. Aromas of dark fruit, caramel, and toasted oak, lead to rounded flavours of prune, vanilla and a subtle toasted character.

825 bottles made.

Two thirds Dubbel aged in Jack Daniel barrels, one third fresh Dubbel.

Medium brown, medium head. On the nose, dark fruits, dark sugars, with a touch of the barrel. A bit fizzy, again the dark fruitiness and a touch of alcohol. Barrel less evident on the palate. For me, not a bad beer but ends up an undistinguished dubbel.

Bottle - Dark sugars, date and raisin with some toffee. Deep copper with a small white head. Dark sugars, date, prune and a bit too much carbonation. Barrel notes come through nicely and balance is there, but the carbonation takes away from what should be a nice sipper.

500mL bottle, pours a cloudy deep dark orange with a medium beige head. Aroma brings out lots of bourbon barrels (not too noticeably JD-like), with booze, and dark fruits. Flavour is very barrel-heavy, with bourbon barrels, plenty of alcohol, caramel and some brown sugar. Quite boozy and barrel-heavy, though not noticeably JD-like. Carbonation is very high, especially for the style. Gets a little cloying with each additional sip. Good stuff.

Bottle at the brewery
Dark color, almost black, with generous head. The aroma of Jack Daniel/Bourbon is quite strong. Medium body strength, caramel flavor, lacking a bit of malt depth, with moderate sweetness, and mild bourbon flavor; booze in the final.
Good, not very elegant.

Bottle at the brewery shared with Alex. Pours an opaque brown with a tan head. Aroma is candy-ish bourbon with fruity notes, very nice. Taste is very fruity with bourbon notes (actually closer to 7.5, not 8 IMO, but I am a bourbon fan). Quite complex, however I would prefer this a bit less sweet and fruity. Nice, though.
