The beer starts off with an initial malt sweetness that fades into a firm but subtle hop presence. The lager yeast and cold maturation ensure a crisp smooth finish. From the French word "Garde" meaning something worth keeping, this Biere de Garde styled Farmhouse Ale is a most delicious companion to a loaf of freshly baked bread from the oven. Grab a seat on the porch, some soft cheese and a tree ripened apple from your grandmother's old orchard. Relax and watch the evening arrive as the afternoon sun is consumed by the illuminating moon over the gardens. We brewed Avant Garde for you, our friends and families. Here's to things worth guarding over.

Bottle (from koht, says "Avant Garde Farmhouse Lager" on the label). Pours hazy golden with whiteish head. Aroma is phenolic, fruits, grains, malt, huskiness. Flavor is sweet and bitter, caramel, grains, noble hops, fruits, malt, slight cardboard even. Finish is dry and sugary with booze. Carbonation is quite fizzy. Overall: drinkablish ESL, more fruity in the nose, but no way this is biere de garde. This should come in 2L PET bottles. --- Beer merged from original tick of Avant Garde on 28 Apr 2018 at 22:46. Corked bottle, 0.75l, shared with friends. Aroma of bread, yeast, spices and green apples. Pours murky dark amber color with rocky off-white head and average sparkling appearance. Taste starts with moderate sweet bready malt and honey, follows by yeast, ripe peaches and apples, mouthfeel is spicy, while finish is mild bitter. Medium body, creamy texture and average carbonation in palate. A bit less than expected, but for sure still good...

Optisch pfirsichfarben, passt gut tun Farmhouse.

From Nov 2007

This pours from 750ml caged and corked bottle a cloudy orange amber with a 2finger head of foam. Lots of nice sticky lacing.

The smell has a ton of fruity notes to it. Apricot, plum, citrus...and there's some candy sugar there as well as some funk. Love it.

The taste is a nice mix of the fruit along with healthy portions of funk and candy sugar and yeast. There's a nice bitter bite near and right through the finish. It has a medium mouthfeel and it's lightly carbonated. More sips in and I get some earthiness along with some bready flavour. Tasty. The funk is really hitting my taste buds in a positive way and I can't help but take more sips. The alcohol is hidden well and helps make for some very good drinkability. Man, that aftertaste really is bitter! it kind of over powers all of the other flavours I enjoyed. Still, I like this beer and I can recommend it.

Purchased from Southbay Drugs and Liquors. Thanks, Joey!

Flaska hos mig, tack!

Keg at Brewdog Shepherds Bush, London. An orange coloured pour with a healthy white head on top. Fruity, yeasty, peach, spice aroma. Tastes quite similar, fruity, yeasty, peach, spice. It is fine but expected much more from Lost Abbey.

Bottle. Honey yellow. Moderate white head. Nice belgian yeast on nose. Additional malts. Light body. The flavour is simpler. Blond-like. Very smooth. Good.

Tons of malt flavor for a farmhouse, but this is a lager not an ale! Unique! Fruity nose. Hints of bread and apple.

0.75l bottle. Clear dark orange body with a huge and lasting white head. Aroma of caramel, orange zest, sugar syrup, floral hops, sipces and apricot. Taste of caramel, apricot, floral hops, toast and some honey. Nice beer.
