In time for fall, we present Bon Vivant, a beer that celebrates two of Oregon’s great autumn crops: hops and grapes. We filled old Pinot Noir barrels from Archery Summit Winery with a hoppy Belgian golden ale and aged it for six months. The barrels contribute notes of light cherry, acidity, oak, and cola; mean- while the hops are Comet and Amarillo, varietals prized for their pungency and fruitiness. Together they harmonize beautifully with the yeast and malt character of the base beer.

A Bon Vivant is not only someone who relishes the luxuries of life– a good beer, a great wine, a delicious meal–but who also loves sharing those luxuries with friends. We hope that you’ll embrace that gregarious spirit as you enjoy this rare beer. Cheers!

Malts: Two Row, Wheat, Acidulated, Light Munich
Hops: Comet, Amarillo

Tasting at Erik's
Hazy golden color. The aroma is a bit funky, vinous. Smooth mouthfeel, juicy malts, lean, nice vinous character, a bit funky, orange peel.
Well balanced and fully enjoyable.

Hazy dark straw. Thin head. Fruity hop aroma, with a light lactic note, On the palate, it's lightly tart, with a hint of fruitiness that comes from that amarillo. But there's a yeasty note that dull the brightness. Would like the hop to be a bit more, but it's ok. Finishes a bit yeasty. So that sticky pale Belgian thing is rounded by the aging, which lends tartness and maybe vinousness if I'm looking for it.

22 oz. bottle, shared by Albert. Pours a hazy, pale yellow color, with a big, foamy, white head. The aroma is subtle oak, brett, lemon peel, honeysuckle, white cherries, and pine. Off dry flavor, with a light funk and mellow bitterness. Light to medium body, hard and dry, but with a fizzy effervescence. This is a subtle and delicious beer.

Bomber from DeLaurenti in Seattle. Aroma is lactic, floral, peaches, cheese, dust, wet rock, vanilla. Pours hazy golden with a thick off-white fluffy head with excellent retention and lace. Taste is medium-level sour, faintly sweet, oaky, fruity. Almost champagne-level foam, medium body. I don’t usually go for this much oak in a beer, but in this it seems to work out just fine, adding an interesting and welcome dimension. Really nice overall.

On tap at Saraveza Farmhouse Festival, pours a cloudy golden with a medium white head. Aroma brings out rustic farmhouse. Flavour is slightly smoky, with earthy notes and rustic farmhouse notes. Pretty earthy, yeasty, and plasticy on the finish. Pretty interesting, but not particularly invigorating.

Bottle. Pours a hazy pale gold with a slight orange hue and a white head that dissipates slowly to the edges. Aroma has a bit of sweet bread but is mainly dry red wine with some oak and a bit of light fruits. Flavor is full of dry wine and oak with light fruits and a touch of sweet grain.

Bomber. Pours a clear golden hue with a small white head. A big sweet vinous oak nose. Spicy, big white wine, fruity resiny hops, light sourness perhaps but not much. Lively body. Very nice beer. Really fits in as a white wine in flavor, but the big hefty body of beer.

22 oz bottle. Thanks to my brother for sharing this bottle. I can always rely on Breakside to provide these unique and very fun beers. Pours a clear dark golden with a patchy fizz head. Funky, winish aroma. Flavor is heavy on the white wine, and soft fruit. Apple and white grape, with a hint of balsamic in the finish. Multi layered beer. This is definitely on the wild side of this style. Very fun beer.
