An intensly tropical and generously hopped IPA brewed in collaboration with the Ocean Tracking Network where 50 cents from every can goes to support local and global marine animal research & education.
This year funds will go to support the conservation of the critically endangered North Atlantic right whale, that relies on the plankton-rich waters of the Maritimes, yet faces dire threats from ship-stikes, fishing entanglements and climate-driven changes in food sources and habitat. OTN's aquatic robots listen for whales to alert ships of their presence and help reduce strikes.

Poured from the tap @ Big Spruce. Cloudy yellow with small white head. Mild tropical hops, touch of pine on the finish. Okay.

473ml can. Pours a cloudy orange gold with yeast particles that sink to the bottom and a medium, creamy, long lasting, off-white head that leaves curtains of lace. Sweet fruity aroma of bready wheat malt, caramel, peach, mango, pineapple, orange peel and piney hops. Sweet fruity flavour of bready wheat malt, orange, grapefruit rind, mango, earthy yeast, oats and piney hops in a dry, bitter finish. Medium body with a sticky, oily texture and average carbonation. Well balanced and tasty.

Can, Legacy. Since when did Big Spruce get the distro in BC? Damn. Amber with a slight haze, and a medium head. The aroma has a little bit of peach, a touch of caramel, maybe lychee, but veering towards overripe fruits and candyish sugars. On the palate, it seems kind of strange, too. Like, there's low bitterness, and some bright fruit notes, kind of what you'd see in a NEIPA, but hardly any yeast, and ultimately there's a hit of alcohol, and the malt balance is just off. Seems like a beer trying to straddle two very different concepts of IPA, and missing on both. The end result is not a bad beer, but an ineffective one.

Can from The Gull, North Vancouver
Dirty, cloudy, dull golden colour, small head. Despite the fact that it must have taken some time to cross Canada, the aroma is fresh, fruity, a bit piney. The mouthfeel is lean, with a crisp malt base, a trace of biscuits, moderate bitternes, nice hop resins, some bitter orange peel, and fairly dry finish.
Very good.

Can: Poured an amber color ale with a large foamy had with good retention and some lacing. Aroma of caramelized malt with some bitter hops with some light caramel malt presence. Taste is a mix of bitter and citrusy hops with some caramel malt and some bitter hops notes. Body is full with good carbonation. Too much caramel notes and too much presence of bitter nots for my taste buds.
