We could wax poetic about the 2003’s leathery, herbal, citric, woody, vanilla, buttery qualities—but the only way to truly appreciate it is to taste it yourself. The one quality we must emphasize is that this is an OUDE LAMBIEK (old Lambic) NOT Geuze. There is some very light sparkle to the beer but it is not intended to have the high champagne-like carbonation that Geuze aims for.

You will see them turning up for special tastings at the best specialty beer bars coast to coast. Quite literally, when this product is gone it can never be made again.

2012 bottle, shared at my cellar clearing party. Hazy orange, with a ruby hint, and a big, pillowy, beige head. Nose is orange peels, strong cloves, white grapes, and grapefruit. Sweet and citrusy, very tart, with just a touch of bitterness. Light to medium body, crisp, effervescent, and pretty acidic. This is a very pleasant, aromatic, and wonderfully complex lambic.

Many thanks to Rian for sharing this 2009 Bottle. Nice tart sourish nose. The beer starts mild sourish, fresh and smooth. The acidity is moderate, the body is soft. The aftertaste has some horse blanket there, very soft mild sour. Great fresh fruity hints, nice and round. Fantastic mild sourish flavour with woody hints.

Bottle, 2009 -thanks _angst_! Pours clear golden orange, really no head or lacing; a few bubbles perhaps. Aroma is funky, lots of wet basement, horse blanket, some cheese, oak tannins, a bit of fruitiness. Flavor is light tart, medium funky, a hint of fruity sweetness remains. Lots of horseblanket funk on top of oak and a hint of mushroom. Medium body, flat as a board. Pretty solid Gueuze overall.

Bottled version USA Distribution. Purchased at least 18 months ago and stored in the cellar horizontally. Enjoyed at fridge temp in a Gueuze Tumbler and allowed to warm and decant for a bit.

A - Nice darker orange, bronze / copper colored.....flat, obviously.

S - Nose is cheesy, wet hay, lemon skins and peach juice. A touch of strawberry and spice.

T - This is a very thin beer. Lots of funk, cheese, hay and grass. A little bit of metallic taste, juicy orange. Finish is very thin it does coat the teeth a little bit but not all that sour.

M - Oily, incredibly thin mouthfeel. Lingering copper finish.

O - It’s not great compared to most old lambic I’ve had but considering it’s bottled and distributed, not a bad find. The price is steep in USA distro $ 35+ a bottle.

0.75l, bottled February 2001, at Moeder Lambic. I was expecting a 2009, so a nice surprise (at least that?s what it says on the label, but it also says 37.5cl on the label :D). Hay, wood, not too intense. Smells pretty old. Taste is fruit, wood, barnyard and even a bit caramel. Full taste and flat carbonation. Fantastic. Update: On Zwanze Day 2015, Toni opened a 2000 vintage bottle (again, we know of Karel’s labeling policy, but it was definitely very old). Lots of wood and horseblanket. A bit "harzig". Like you love Lambic.
