German Steinbier (Stone Beer)
Wort was poured over hot rocks, instantly bringing it to boil, caramelizing malt sugars, and creating clouds of piping hot steam, resulting in a rich lager with a malt-candy-like finish.

Bottle from Bottle Jockey, Burnaby
Amber color, clean. Delicate aroma, biscuity and cereally malts, elegant, very nice. The flavor has similar profile, but not as elegant and deep, it has s very light acidity, and some roastiness, darker caramel (from the stones).
Nice beer, but no elevation.

Bottle from the brewery. Golden-amber, thin head. Has a nice, toasty malt character, might be the best malt nose on an S&O beer yet. Sweet, delicious character...the sugars off the rocks are quite apparent. Has just enough hop to balance. Again, the malts are cleaner than usual for this brewery. Good example of the style, and probably the nicest non-smoked lager theyβve made.

650 ml bottle. Pours a clear copper with no head. Aromas of sweat and toasted malts. Flavors of bread crust, acidic malts and dry herbs. Nothing to write home about.

650mL bottle, pours a cloudy dark amber orange with a small white head. Aroma brings out dry toasted caramel, dry bready malt and a hint of residual sweetnsss. Flavour is very much the same, with toasted caramel, bready malt, light berries and a pleasant residual sweetness on the finish. Fairly robust for the style and true to style. Very good.
