Bottled (at Tuulensuu, Tampere). Quite much pitch black colour with a mediumsized longlasting off-white to beigeish head. Aroma is coffee, roasted malts, some slight chocolate as well as some dark berries. Flavour is being quite similar with also some mild smoked wet wooden notes to it. A rather wellbalanced Stout.

33 cL bottle, courtesy of Ungstrup. Pours hazy dark brown with a huge tan head. Aroma is roasted malty and slight breadish. Roasted, light liqourice and light yeasty. Light acidic and bitter to phenolic. Lasting dark malty to roasted/breadish finish.

Excellent pour of slightly brown head, nearly black body. Aroma is mostly, barley, some alcohol, some spice. Taste is a smooth mix of dark barley and just a bit of spice; very smooth, very drinkable. No complexity, but it would make a good session beer.

Bottle from Bon Marche in Paris. Pours dark cola with a decent light tan head. Roasted coffee aroma. Medium body with sharp carbonation; thins a bit as the carbonation leaves. Flavor of coffee and near burnt malt. Quite dry. Stout it is, and except for the thin body in the finish, a very excellent one. A standout stout.

Bottle in Paris, 2006. 4 Is it a stout? It seems to contain buckwheat. Very dark brown, close to black. A large light brown head, slowly settling down. Strong of wheat malt, yeast, fruit and spice. Slightly roasted feel, but also a bit smoky. Good roasted flavor. The roasted barley dominates, but is it the buckwheat that is a nice, refreshing addition? Very creamy, some coffee, chocolate, cookieish. Very complex. Like a stout with a weizen twist. Relatively dry finish, with lots of roasted malt. This is a fantastic and original beer.

Brown-black beer with a good brown-cream head, reasonably persistent. Typical "black wheat"/grains nose; grainacidity in the nose already (different from wheat), very slightly spicy, but mostly grainy. Beautiful, near excellent roasted/carbonised dark grain taste with a slight rum-like background. Just great - remembered justly so.Gristslickness, rather well-bodied despite the lower ABV. One of Brittany’s classicals, one of the first to open my eyes to beers from the south, and still a great one.

(Bottle 33 cl) "Biere de blé noir" - a beer brewed with dark malts, but actually it’s not really that dark. Presumably brewed with buckwheat. Very malty and pleasant with a slightly acidic edge reminding me of a flemish sour ale. Big lumps of yeast in the sediment, not really appetizing. But still an excellent beer. But a "Stout"???

Black color. Nice aroma of roasted malt. Very good body structure and harmony of elements: malt, roasted malt, bitterness…

[At Fete de la Biere 2004, Lausanne, and later] A black beer with a small lasting brown head. The aroma has notes of roasted malt. The flavor is sweet with notes of roasted malt, wood, and some coffee, leading to a bitter roasted finish.
