On thap at the Brothers Beer Bistro tap takeover. The Bourbon barrel aging is really what the Long Dark Voyage was missing - a big and special element. Hits the spot perfectly. The nose features the bourbon, molasses and dark chocolate. The taste is rich and boozie, with dark chocolate, bourbon, cream, toffee, sweet malt, dark berries and a touch of vanilla. Very smooth, dense and slightly sticky mouth feel. I’d steal from my neighbour’s glass to get more. OK, I did do that.

750ml bottle from the brewery. Jet black, big brown head. Huge, intense Aroma. Giant roasty notes. Loads of sweet barrel, and vanilla with some sherry. Coffee, and bitter cocoa come through also. Hints of soy, and some sweet, dark cherries. Impressive...... Oily, sticky, thick, viscous mouth feel. Coats my glass like old motor oil. Medium bitterness. Finish is sweet, and slightly roasty with hints of charcoal, and smoke. Barrel takes over, and mingles with the roast, and coffee. End with a strong barrel, woody sweetness with a big Bourbon note. Quite nice. Anxious to see what some age does to my other bottle.

(750ml bottle from my girlfriend, purchased at the brewery in 2016) Pours black with a small but stable fine tan head and lace. Aroma of slightly sour/acidic dark roasted malt, whiskey, lots of wood, slight smoke, dried berries, umami, char, oxidized twang. Flavour is lightly sweet and somewhat acidic, dark malt with a little raw sugar and chocolate, cherries and red berries, whiskey, vanilla, some metallic/blood notes that give away oxidation. Finish is dry, powdery, a little boozy, vanilla, toasted grain, ash, metal. Medium bodied, creamy soft carbonation. Not sure what happened here; I assumed it was only age making this bottle feel a bit off but reviews here from much further back seem to mention similar characteristics. My girlfriend had it on tap at the brewery in 2016 and enjoyed it a lot but found this barely drinkable, so perhaps bottles suffered some infection as well?

Sergey’s hunt; vintage 2016
Black color, medium head. Aroma of roasted malt and roasted hazelnuts. Some chocolate flavor, mild sourness, mild acidity.
It may be a bit off because of the sourness, but it’s quite good.

750ml bottle (thx, Chris S.!) shared at Brians office. Pours an almost black with a tan head. Aroma is dark fruits, slightly sour with some bourbon and chocolate notes. Similar taste. Maybe oxidized, but it is still quite good.

Bottle - Dark bourbon roast and a touch if boozy sourness. Jet brown with a light brown head. Light soured bourbon notes with a touch of booze. Thin and not that great.

750mL bottle, pours black with a small light brown head. Aroma reveals subdued notes of bourbon, light coconut, vanilla, and a touch of cocoa. Flavour has light sourness upfront, with gentle bourbon, a touch of vanilla and some dark fruitiness. The tartness probably shouldnt be here. Its solid but slightly off.

A deep dark stout with a very thin mocha head. In aroma, sweet fruity chocolate malt with loads of dark fruits, molasses, plums, licorice, alcohol warmth, very nice. In mouth, a nice sweet fruity chocolate malt with loads dark fruits, light soy sauce, alcohol warmth, cherry blossom, very nice and complex. On tap at Beau’s Oktoberfest 2016.
