Originally brewed at Callister, then at Parallel 49, finally with Slow Hand as of 2024.
The description and list of hops changed slightly
2017 and 2020: SYNTHWAVE Double IPA is our co-headliner for next weeks Ales of March event. Coming in at 8.2% this citra/mosaic juice will keep the party rocking (8.2%)
2022: Synth Wave is brewed with 2 different kinds of Oats, Wheats as well as Honey Malt to give this double IPA a smooth thickness upon which some irresponsibly large hop additions can shine. Amarillo, Citra, Mosaic and Centennial were added exclusively in the whirlpool to add big flavour with restrained bitterness. To support the heavy hit on the palate, an equally large dry-hop of Motueka, Mosaic and Citra / Simcoe cryohop was embraced to satisfy the hype cone fan boys on the nose as well (8.5%)
2024: Synthwave is our big, juicy, hazy DIPA pumped up with Motueka, Citra, Simcoe, and Mosaic. (8.5%)

5oz pour at The Magnet. Pours opaque yellow with white head. Aroma has a ton of juicy orange, stonefruit, and another quality I tend to attribute to hazies. Flavour has juicy orange and stonefruit, some pine, syrupy; a bit alcoholic near the end. Not as good, when compared to some of their other recent products, but still fine.

Ridiculously hazy, super cloudy pale golden and straw coloured body with a three centimetre tall tan and zillions of small bubbles on the sides show through the 95 per cent opacity. Aroma of straw, grass, hay, flowers, oranges, curacao, light resin, relatively pungent hop scents and seemingly some bitterness and alcohol here. Full-bodied; Very rich, strong and pungent malts show at first with a strong alpha acid punch that brings out nice bitterness here, with a dry, crisp bite that has a good balance, but only a tiny bit of sweetness from oranges. Aftertaste is rich, full of flavours and a pretty nice complexity here that is bitter from lemons, grapefruit and oranges, a full-bodied maltiness that is easy-drinking enough, but some mellow sugars on the end of some lactose and crisp curacao finish. Overall, pretty nice for the style and showing Imperial Status from the rich malts and body with a good bitterness and enjoyable sweetness - great to sample from out West (BC) and worth the space in my suitcase when I brought it home across my country. I sampled this sixteen ounce, pint-sized can, purchased from Broadway Liqour in South Vancouver, British Columbia, Columbia on 01-July-2022 for CA$5,50 sampeld at my house here in Washington on 21-July-2022.

Milky yellow body and soft foam, floral hops on the nose leaning toward plug in air fresheners. Flavour is good chewy hops, sweet and chalky. Okay, a little less full on than their other stuff.

Oct 14, 2024 Re-rate: new release with slight changes to the recipe and brewed at a new location. Cloudy yellow with small orange head. Smooth citrus and tropical hops, well balanced, enjoyable. Jan 17, 2020 (7/3/7/3/15=3.5): Poured from 473mL can. Cloudy orangey yellow with minimal white head. Dirty, pithy, tropical hops, mild dankness, alcohol mostly hidden. Still feels a little messy.

Cloudy, with a thin head. Fun aroma mixes honeysuckle, mango, papaya, random citrus elements, all from hop. Other elements are unobtrusive. On the palate, this has moderate bitterness, and lots of those fun floral, fruity hops. Malts are pale and mellow, the yeast just restrained enough. A touch of alcohol in the finish, but again well-balanced. Pretty solid DIPA.

Draft - Juicy Mandarin, peel and some vanilla notes. Cloudy yellow gold with a decent white head. Orange, lemon rind and a nice little bitterness. Solid and abv is well hidden. Nice.

On tap at Callister. Pours a cloudy yellow with a white head. Aroma is tropical fruits with earthy notes. Taste is dunk, tropical fruits, juicy. Very good for the people who do love (not like some other people kind of A. and M., lol) such kind of beer.

On tap at Callister, pours an opaque, cloudy, filthy yellow with a small white head. Aroma brings out lots of citrus pithy notes, light piney hops and yeast. Flavour is similar, with lots of pithy notes, some tropical fruits, yeast and piney hops. Rather confused flavour profile overall, with a very dirty, yeasty character. Palate is very milky and thick on the palate, which is very odd and a little off-putting. Getting tired of these filthy NE-style IPAs, and this is one of the filthier, messier ones around here. Not good.

2019-02-02, can from Legacy LRS, Vancouver, 8-3-8-3-16=38
Murky blond colour. The aroma is explosive, with citrus fruits, some mango, some tropical fruit, light dank. It's a bit chalky and astringent, but the hop portion is impeccable, being juicy, citrusy, a bit piney and dank.
Dirty as too often happens with Boombox, but a good hop juice.
2017-03-15, draught at Callister, Vancouver, 7-1-7-3-12=30
Lurid yellow color (pour milk, Fanta and sewer water in a glass for same visual effect). The mini straight glass doesn't help, but the aroma is fruity, with mostly tropical notes, yuzu, pineapple. Strong mouthfeel, moderately sweet; pale malt base, followed by a very fruity and juicy hopping (grapefruit, pineapple, kalamansi) that ends with a strong piney character, what I like; unfortunately everything is soiled by the usual NE nonsense: chalky, wheaty, astringent.
Can we try something with less dirt in? Frankly, I could never drink a full glass of this.
Poor Vancouver hipster culture.
