Twin Sails Brewing Kool Koala

Kool Koala

Twin Sails Brewing in Port Moody, British Columbia, Canada 🇨🇦

IPA - Imperial / Double Regular
Score
6.97
ABV: 8.2% IBU: - Ticks: 7
Kool Koala was heavily dry hopped with Galaxy, Motueka and Summer. These Aussie and Kiwi hops put forward huge tropical fruit on the nose with candy and tropical fruit on the palate. At 8.2% ABV, this one is way too crushable.

Sharp vegetal and sweet orange aroma, has no foam and a foggy orange body. Flavour is bright orange, decent. Good oiliness on the mouth. Nice but kind of heavy.

Poured from the tap. Cloudy gold with white head. Very dank with a mix of citrus, tropical and pine hops. Decent overall, but not memorable.

Tall can from the brewery (thx, Alex C.!). Canned on 2017-03-27. Pours a murky golden with a white head. Aroma is buttery, tropical fruits, some herbal not very pleasant notes like in old IPAs. Taste is hoppy bitter, with the same not very pleasant herbal notes. One of the most unpleasant from TS for me.

Hazy blonde. Not much head. Danky litterbox nose...so citra and maybe mosaic...bitter, a bit salty, and the hops are pungent. The malts are where this gets let down.

2017-04-12, can from the brewery, 7-4-7-4-15=37
Cloudy blond color. Some dank hops in the aroma; also some paper or cardboard, fermented grass. Dry, lean, nowhere near the expected strength, which is a good thing; mild pale malts; the hops are a bit citrusy, but not as bright as the tap at the brewery.
Good, not special.

Hazy blond color. The aroma is a bit buttery, the carbonation is soft, there are fruity and piney hops, but nowhere as bright as they were at the brewery. Some butter in the final too.

2017-04-08, draught at the brewery, with Julian, 8-4-9-5-17=43
Cloudy pale blond color. Nice aroma of citrusy and piney hops with a hint of tropical. Lean and dry mouthfeel, crackery malts, and wonderful piney hopping, pungent, moderately juicy, tropical.
Excellent.

Draft - Buttery citrus hops . Cloudy gold with a decent white head. Herbal and leafy note with some citrus notes. Dry finish. Ok, but not their best.

On tap at 12 Kings, pours a cloudy golden yellow with a small white head. Aroma is massively dank, with pot-like hops, sweet citrus and a trace of diacetyl. Flavour is along the same lines, with piney and citrus hops, light fankness, tropical fruitiness and a hint of diacetyl that is masked more with each sip luckily. Not their best beer, but it's very pleasant. Perhaps I'll try it again in can form and see the difference.
