This German styled dark lager is big in roasted malt flavour and has a touch of coffee and chocolate. Known as "Liquid Bread" by Monks in the 18th century the Doppel Bock is a big bodied, big flavoured beer and this is a Red Racer’s take.

Dark brown, no head, light toffeeish aroma. Sweet, toffeeish, has a nice rich character. So the aroma isn’t much but it’s a nice clean bock, on the palate straddling the line between single and double.

Dark brown color with generous frothy head. Dark caramel flavor, a bit nutty, but very thin body. Weak Doppelbock.

Dark color, almost black, with a small collar of foam. Good body strength, lean, not too strong or sweet; moderate malt and caramel depth, these are more than decent; low bitterness, with a nutty touch in the final in lieu.
Now, the problem with too many North American copies of German beers is that they have a feeling of sewage or stale water, and in this beer that’s quite evident in the aroma and flavor. Probably it’s the yeast.
And I can’t get past the sewage.

330ml bottle. Pours a clear dark brown, almost black with red hue and a small, creamy, short lived, beige head that leaves spotty lacing. Sweet aroma of roasted malt, dark chocolate and coffee. Sweet flavour of dark chocolate, caramel, roasted malt, molasses and bread with some mild coffee bitterness in the finish. Medium body with an oily texture and soft carbonation. Tasty.

330mL bottle, pours a red-tinged near-black with a small beige head. Aroma brings out toasted nuts and bready malt. Flavour is a little more robust, with toasted malt, a touch of roast and some toasted nuttiness. Not particularly deep, with a medium-body and good drinkability. Decent.
