Bottle, during the Lovullo Sour Tasting Session at Jimmy’s no. 43. Pours a cloudy, pale brown with a soft, off-white head. Has a lightly sour aroma with mustiness, brown sugar, spices, orange, and some caramel. Flavor is just reminscent of a Brown Ale with a basically sweet character. The cacao comes through with interesting results. Flavor is meaty and robust. Fairly malty. Definitely some tart tones as well. Medium bodied with average carbonation. Lingering sugar and spice aftertaste, Certainly an interesting beer.

Bottle. Pours brown-orange with a creamy golden head. Interesting aroma with notes of chocolate, some wine and some bretty/vinegar thing going on. Small sourness in taste asweel. Also very fruity (orange). At the same time this has some chocolate and buttery notes. In other words: A very, very complex, unique and interesting beer!

On tap at the Ann Arbor location. Pours red brown. Aroma of bubble gum, green apple, and dark fruit. Flavors include dark fruit and red apple with cloves and bubble gum from the yeast and hints of cocoa and oak. Very nice.

On tap at the A2 brewpub. Poured a a murky brown with an amber hue and a light brown head. Aroma was full of dark sweet fruits with a hint of caramel, yeast and cocoa. Flavor has dark fruits as well with a touch of cocoa and caramel. Even a bit of tart, quite complex.

hazy amber, light brown head. Bottle was a real gusher, stopped foaming over when only 1/4’th beer was left in the bottle, so a quick pour is neccesary. mild sourish aroma dominates, some sweetness beneath probably from cocoa and spices. flavor is sourish, faint citrussy, sweet from cocoa and quite spicy. it’s a strange battle between sour and sweet, and the spices adds a third dimension. anyway, i only partially like the flavor but it’s quite interesting. starts quite sour, then comes the cocoa, then the spices, and then it ends orange peely bitter

17th May 2008. Slight sour with an undertone of chocolate and coffee. Vague fruity notes and a little subtle spice in the very dry finish. Decent US Belgian!

(Bottle, batch 349, at Pikkulintu, Helsinki, on 2009-08-26) A gusher. Dark brown and hazy. Very large and tan coloured head that lasts long. Sour and fruity aroma. Full bodied and dry palate with medium carbonation. Stongly sourness, bitterness, acridity and fruitiness in taste. Sour and bitter aftertaste. I suppose this was a bad bottle.
