A style born in the Pacific Northwest, this dark ale combines citrus, pine and spice aromas of American hops with rugged roast malt flavours. Please do not drink this ale in 42 seconds, nor ride off on a pitch black steed. Unfiltered and naturally carbonated.

Deep brown, fluffy tan head. Vague sweetness in nose and palate. Light hop bitterness in finish. Not a good example of the style

Draught @ Boxcar. Medium brown, light, toast, lots of bitterness. Hoppy, nutty, medium body.
Bottle, Nov 2017: Medium brown. Thin head. Has a light sort of cocoa aroma, but thinnish. Bitter and a bit thin, with some sweetness. Cocoa, like, maybe. Not much going on here. Definitely too thin for the style. And not nearly hoppy enough. 5-3-5-2-10 = 2.5

Draft - Cola and herbal notes with root beer. Clear Amber with a decent white head. Malty root beer notes with some light bitterness. Very weird and much too soft.

On tap at 12 Kings, pours dark brown / near-black with a small beige head. Aroma brings out earthy hops and toasted malt. Flavour is fairly subdued, with lots of earthy hops, toasted malt and a touch of toasted caramel. Quite an earthy one, with low harshness for the style. Not overly exciting but nicely constructed. Decent.

Draught at 12 Kings, Vancouver; 6% ABV
Dark brown color, not yet black, with generous beige head. Dry CDA, roasty but not ashy, with a dash of chilies and root beer.
Not bad.
