Imperial stout matured on Monbazillac barrels (sweet white wine from the Dordogne region). Thick, creamy, beige head, colour as good as black. Aroma of gooseberries, chocolate, wine, orange peel, coffee powder, dried plums, oak; dry sourish taste, very fruity and very complex, with a rich and deep, caramelly and chocolatey malt basis, the typical powdery mouthfeel I appreciate so much in this style and a full roasted bitterness in the finish with refreshing wine acidity and some woodiness. Wonderful, these people keep inventing impy variations as if it were nothing and almost each and every one of them turns out to be a masterpiece.

Bottle in the sun at Lords, Compton Upper, 2nd day of the test v Sri Lanka and celebrating a daddy century by Root, 13/06/14. Black with a big dirty tan head that retains well, slow gusher affair. Nose is earthy cocoa, wine BA, oaky, dark fruit tones, shades of sherry and Xmas cake. Taste comprises a big wine tang, oaky wood soak, rich fruit cake, chocolate nut brownies. Medium + body, fine carbonation, light booze in the close but drinks well under 10%. Decent impy if not top draw, plenty of depth and character.
