Anchor Steam Beer - brewed for the first time in 1896 - owes its deep amber color, thick, creamy head, and rich, distinctive flavor to a historic brewing process like none other. It is a process that combines deep respect for craft brewing tradition with many decades of evolution to arrive at a unique approach: a blend of pale and caramel malts, fermentation with lager yeast at warmer ale temperatures in shallow open-air fermenters, and gentle carbonation in our cellars through an all-natural process called kräusening.

Pours amber from the bottle and leaves a frothy, finger-thick crown. Aroma is honey, fresh bandage, with a lightly floral note.Taste is lightly bittersweet with a subtle berry undertone. Noticeable caramel as well. Wonderful is the palate - robust, smooth, creamy with a nicely balanced carbonation. It really makes the beer. All in all —simple yet scrumptious. Drank this once years ago but didn’t remember much. Wish I’d gotten back to it sooner. A real pleasure to drink.

2016 catch up - Bottle at home - It was beer. Not much else to say. A bit like a best bitter and I can get those at a much better price than this.

12 ounce bottle. Can’t believe I never rated this before. Nice Amber orange pour. Firm, rocky beige head leaves nice clinging lace. Sweet fruity malt nose has hints of brown sugar and baked bread. Mild earthy toasted malt flavor has sweet and spicy notes. Some hop bitterness in finish offers a nice balance. Crisp dry bitter aftertaste. Still tasty after all these years.

Bottle from waitrose. I was expecting much great things and was surprised by the very tinny taste of the beer, especially given its lovely darker colour. I feel it would be nice very cold from a keg.
