3 Fonteinen Oude Geuze Golden Blend is a blend of one-, two-, three-and at least 25% four-year old lambics. Spontaneous fermentation, patient maturation in oak barrels, and continued evolution in the bottle result in a distinctively complex beer.
No two bottlings are alike, as there are multiple variables in the blending process, a variety of barrel sizes and shapes, differences in aged lambic proportions, etc. When cellared properly, 3 Fonteinen Golden Blend can be aged for several decades. Traditional lambic is living, cultural heritage rooted in the Zenne valley! Bottle fermented, unfiltered and unpasteurised.

A little too acidic if a Gueuze for my liking but still very well made and tasty.

Funky, complex and sourish with some wild yeastiness, farmyardy tartness and hints of bretta-y leathery horse blanket. Quite complex and balanced blend.

Side by side with Golden Fern since they both have golden in the name. But seriously, smooth, light funk, woodsy with some clean stone fruit notes. LCI

31 December 2023. New Year’s Eve Tasting - massive thanks to Gregory for sharing this bottle!
Vintage 2014. Hazy dark golden, stable, frothy, off-white head. Expressive aroma of wet hay, barnyard, oak, vanilla, fermenting green apple & apricot, horseblanket, grass, cheese, sourdough, vague white pepper. Taste has very sour green apple, plum & gooseberry receiving a funky treatment of lactic acid, vinegar, leather & hay, kept together by a sourdough-like malt body and somewhat balanced by softly bitter notes of straw & wood. Finishes with old grassy & earthy hops, tart green apple and stone fruit's stone, yet maintaining a bitter backbone of wood (tannins) and hay, keeping the whole thoroughly dry as well. Medium body, creamy texture, average carbonation. Noticeably more 'bitter' than your average Geuze but evidently well structured within the complex sour profile, a real banquet of wild fermentation. Lovely!

Bottle, 6% in celebration of my 20th Ratebeer anniversary. 10 years old in two months and thus two months from best before date. Great citric and acetic aroma, woody with white wine and grape notes. Cloudy dark golden colour. Small white head. The flavour is acidic and acetic. Slightly woody, but very pleasant. Lemon and vanilla. Does not bite much, very mellow.

Bottle. Pours somewhat hazy amber with airy off-white head. Clear aroma of wild yeast and dust, with malty notes and mild touches of fruit. Intensely dry, vinous flavour of Lambic yeast, with malty touches. Dry and dusty aftertaste. Wonderful.
