Tu Meke: a word from the language of the native Mâori people of New Zealand, used when something good happens. Well something great happened when Steel & Oak and Strange Fellows got together to create the recipe for this year’s VCBW collaboration beer!
Wild harvested Tasmania pepperberries and a collection of New Zealand hop varietals contribute notes of fresh cracked pepper, blackberry, currant, raspberry and a hint of zested citrus to this Ocenia inspired saison. A simple grain bill lets the eatery and phenolic yeast profile balance the subtle pepperberry heat allowing Tu Meke to finish smooth, dry and crisp.

Hazy, straw colour, with a medium head. Aroma is coriander-centric , spicy, yeasty, pale malts. Similar palate, lighter body, tons of coriander. the hop character is blown away by the spicing.

Draught at Strange Fellows,
Hazy blond color, small head. Spicy, balanced, rather dry but robust, clean and quite refreshing. A bit of rosemary and vegetable character.
Nice Saison, a bit sweeter and without the character of the Belgian ones, but well brewed.

On tap at Strange Fellows, pours a hazy yellow with a small white head. Aroma is fruity and peppery, with lots of cracked black pepper and spicy yeast notes upfront. Flavour follows accordingly, with lots of currants and other berries, in addition to the spicy cracked black pepper. Really well-balanced and constructed. Dry, fruity and spicy on the finish. Good stuff.
