Dark Helles Bock.

Part of Brews Brothers 2016 collaboration pack.

Helles Bock that would infuriate any German beer traditionalist. A core of Continental pale malts book-ended with a touch of black malt to give it a imposing colour and a hearty dose of Hallertau Blanc hops to add a bright gooseberry aroma. A fruity malty lager that is surprisingly dark.

341ml bottle. Pours a clear dark amber with a small, creamy, short lived, beige head that laces. Sweet aroma of toasted malt, bread and caramel. Sweet flavour of toasted malt, caramel, bread, dark fruit and nuts with a mildly bitter finish. Light to medium body with an oily texture and average carbonation.

Amber brown, thin head. The aroma is sort of a vaguely bready malt note. Light toastiness but mostly the same vaguely bready stuff. The malts are in fact more helles bock than dunkler bock, albeit not at the highest level of helles bock. The slight toasty note from the dark malt might be messing up the hops, which I’m not really noticing much. There is a little bit of balancing bitterness, though. Overall, ok, comes across a bit like a dunkel. Odd, but you could work with the idea.

Draught at the brewery; batch 2777, 6.3% ABV
Dark amber color with red hue, small head, clean. The aroma is very mild. The flavor is delicate, some malt with a cereal touch, and some caramel, good body strength, very moderate sweetness, lightly nutty in the final, a bit chewy too.
I wonder if Dark Helles is a pun.
Timid, but also clean. Not bad.

Draft - Dark caramel malts and bread. Clear Amber with a decent white head. Dark and sweet malts with a bit of a dark Brady finish. Sweet, but OK.

On tap at Parallel 49, pours a cloudy dark orange with a small white head. Aroma brings out toasted malt and earthy notes. Flavour is along the same lines, with lots of earthy notes, toasted malt and a touch of caramel. Nothing overly exciting, but it's alright.
