Barrel aged for 26 months on a Stranahans Colorado Whiskey barrel.
It is hardly a secret that Hr. Frederiksen is the signature beer for Amager Bryghus, and we are happy to admit that this big, black beer is close to our hearts. It is also hardly a secret that we are very happy with Stranahan whiskey, from the small distillery in Denver, Colorado. With Hr. Frederiksen Colorado Whiskey Edition we combine two good things in one bottle, and we hope that you - dear beer lover - will enjoy the joyful combination of a rich and potent Imperial Stout from Amager's beautiful, rolling, green landscapes, which after 26 months in a Stranahan whiskey barrel is rounded off by the slightly sweet whiskey from Colorado's wild mountains.
Hr. Frederiksen Colorado Whiskey Edition is not a beer that you throw down your throat in excessive quantities at your local beaver drink. It is a delightful beer - preferably poured into a large goblet glass - for quiet contemplative evenings in front of the fireplace video, where you can calmly ponder life's big questions such as: is Bjarne Corydon really a sexier finance minister than Claus Hjort? And can't I reasonably demand a 50% discount on my souvlaki the next time I vacation in Crete? Yes, there are so many big questions in life. And to digest them, you can conveniently enjoy this great beer, which has tamed potency without ever ending up as a cuckold.

Sampled at Borefts Beer Festival @ De Molen, Bodegraven. Pitch black, opaque color, light brown head. Smell a lot of whisky BA, wood and roastyness. Also taste a lot of whisky BA, wood, roastyness and coffee. Good carbonation, full body.

Draft at BBF 2011 courtesy of Amager, thanks! Overpowering aroma of whiskey. Taste has nice vanilla and cocoa, but over the top with booze.

Draught at Borefts 2011. Pungent cigarbox aroma. Black colour. Very small light brown head. The flavour has a lot of whisky, like whisky was added. Good vanilla flavour, (too) much alcohol, and perhaps too much whisky.

Draft at BBF 2011. Brown pour with no head. Aroma is slightly medicinal, overwhelming chocolate and coffee. Initial flavour seems spoiled somehow, but leads into a good finish with plenty of vanilla. Not as good as the original.

From tap. Pours hazy dark brown to black with a small tan head. Aroma is dense whiskey and wooden, light vanilla touch. Thick malty, sweet, whiskey and light vanilla. Alcohol heavy, warming and dark roasted malty. Lasting whiskey and dense malty finish.

On tap at BBF’11. Black, beige head. Aroma is very sweet, lots of bourbon, sugar, liquorice, molasses, coffee. Flavour is booze, hard roasted malts, chocolate, bourbon, liquorice, coffee, booze and more booze. Medium bodied. The regular Frederiksen is one of my favourites, but this is too sweet, way too much barrel ageing imo.
