0,33l bottle at home. BB 08/2016. almost black color, medium big tan head. smells of grass, herbs, peppery, spices, light veggies, light roast, decent smell. full body, medium carbonation, slick mouthfeel. tastes of spices, grass, light roast, herbs, earthy, light coffee, a bit harsh grainy, light veggies. finishes lightly roasted and lightly bitter with some grass and herbs and earthy hops. overall decent, I get some light vegetable notes on both taste and smell, which is a bit distracting, but overall drinkable.

Dutch take on the much discussed ’black IPA’ style. Very dark mahogany colour, as good as black, under a thick, lacing, dense, light beige head. Pleasant and strong aroma of citrussy hops and dark malts - this is a black IPA alright. I get impressions of grapefruit peel, bitter weeds, bourbon, some fondant chocolate, roasted meat, biscuit, a lot of pine resin, sourish rye bread dough, bitter honey, freshly cut nettles, liquorice candy, dried leaves, roasted chestnuts, burning oak, field flowers - the sequoia forests of the West are not far away even though this beer is made in the Netherlands. Taste begins with dried fruits, restrainedly sweetish, some candi sugar lurking in the background but deciding not to interfere; medium carbonation, just enough for this style. Smooth and resinous mouthfeel, dark malts playing the basses in the middle phase, a bit caramelly and very nutty, as liquid roasted chestnuts; a suggestion of pine resin is omnipresent, but subtly so. The presence of sourish spicy rye adds complexity, as does a spicy yeastiness; the finish is a complex of lingering nutty malt sweetishness, warming gin-like alcohol and, as expected, a profound, drying hoppiness pairing leafy ’bassoon’ hops with peppery and floral ’violin’ hops, long and quenching. I love this ale’s bitterness, paired beautifully with drinkability and complexity at the same time. Another great piece of work from the Netherlands!

Bottled, thanks oh6gdx! Hazy dark nut brown. Generous citrus aroma - tangerine and grapefruit with notes of licorice. Mid dry with solid body and well rounded mouthfeel. Lychee and tangerine dominates, notes of licorice. Marked bitter finish. Well made with distinct flavours.

Aroma has light roasted malt. A touch of fruitiness too. Not an overpowering hop flavour, the roasted grains are well represented.
