The Glacial Mammoth Extinction is the first beer of it’s kind, and the result of freezing a strong sour beer to -30C in two stages over a one month period.
The sweet alcoholic liquid was separated from the extinct ice glacier that was left in the tank, and then aged in French oak barrels for two years until it was ready.
The final product is a rich, complex, and viscous 100% malt beverage that resembles Port more than beer.
Residual sugar: 80 grams per litre
Volume produced: 400 litres

Many thanks to the Vancouver guys, including fiery1, beerplace and pictoman, that sat next to us outside at Mikkeller Bar Viktoriagade. Taster poured from a dark compact bottle. Scattered lacing, film-type layer, and near-black in the glass. Attractive aromas of cocoa chocolate and dried fruits. Powerful flavours with impacts of dark chocolate, prunes, raisin, and syrup, offset by a semi-tart backdrop. Woody and oaky. Lingering ending with warming alcohol. Port impression. Enjoyable sipper. Poured from growler bottle courtesy of fiery1. Better than I remember from back in the day. Hazed amber brown with no head. Lots of dried fruit, sweet, light booze. Surprisingly good from Storm.

Bottle courtesy of fiery1. Deepest brown-to-amber color with no head. Aroma is deep raisins, mild tartness, pretty fruits. Taste is raisins, sweet-and-sour, alcohol burn. Oily mouthfeel, flat. Surprisingly good.

Light brown colour. Viscous. No head, obviously, after a couple rounds of freezing. Aroma is sort of a maple-soy glaze situation, but also with some deep oxidation and a light alcohol sting. Soft, sweet, the saltier soy sauce accent isn’t great here, but the woody character and richer sugars (maple syrup, toffee)...a deep rich stewed fruitiness as well, with alcohol/brandy notes. This is a tasty, rich eisbock.

From a micro growler (thx, Alex!). Pours a dark brown with no head. Aroma is damn complex with woody, dark cherry, oak, bourbon, chocolate, and liquorice notes. Very boozy. Almost zero carbonation. Taste is woody, very sweet, moderately sour, dark fruits, port notes, some chocolate. Quite harsh, though. Very interesting stuff, looooong seeeeeeeeeper, hehe.
