He was covered in fur from his head to his foot, the colour of midnight, the colour of soot. A bundle was squirming, slung over his back, & he looked like a thief, sneaking off with his sack. His eyes were like embers, glowing fierce in the night—I froze in the shadows to hide from his sight! A bundle of branches help tight in his fist, reminded me that this was no happy tryst. He had cloven hooves & a serpentine tail, my shameful behavior he was here to wassail. He was wickedly bad—an evil old devil, I cringed when I saw him—his whole being so dreadful. The glint in his eye & the nod of his head soon gave me to know I had plenty to dread.

Poured from the tap. Slightly hazy copper brown with small off white head. Lots of candi sugar, some dark fruits, and booze, not much in way of depth. Disappointed.

Murky brownish body with a bit of foam. Doughy yeasty hoppy aroma that somehow comes across like your locker room at the local public swimming pool. Or a caramelly sweet latté. Flavour is big cloying sweet caramel and chewy malts on the back end. Sweet finish. Okay but Strange Fellows can do better.

Seema some very variable ratings on this one but I really like it. Florals, citrus and a touch of leather. Pours dark brown without much head. Light sweet and sour end. Tap at St. Augustine's.

Apparently this was better in prior years, because what they served me yesterday was no dubbel, and not even a good beer. Amber-brown, no head. Bubblegum and blandness on the nose. Soft. Thin, husky, bubblegum...jesus really?

Taster at the brewery shared with Alex and Josh. Pours a bit hazy dark copper with a tan head. Aroma is buttery and fruity. Similar taste with lots of fruits botes. It is harsh and too fruity. Meh.

750 ml bottle. Pours a dark mahogany with moderate head. Aromas of earthy metallic yeast with dark fruity esters and wet breadcrusts. Flavors are similar with additional dry candi sugar and tobacco. Close but no Belgian cigar.

2020-04-12, bottle from the brewery, 8.5% ABV, 5-5-6-3-12=31
Red-chestnut colour, clean, with beige compact head. Strong smell of that inauthentic yeast so often used in North America, estery, with anise, dirt. Good mouthfeel, lean, lightly sweet, with caramel flavour, candi sugar, and thankfully not much of that yeast; warmng alcohol in the finish.
Drinkable.
2015-11-27, draught at the brewery, 9% ABV, 6-4-5-2-11=28
Dark amber color to burnt orange, hazy, with almost no head. In the aroma there are some fruity esters, some candi sugar, and dust. The mouthfeel is drier, more attenuated than expected; dry caramel flavor with dusty yeast, a hint of bitter oranges, and some booze in the final.
Too boozy and dry to be on style; not particularly pleasant.

Draft - Lots of rain, plum and some dark sugars. Cloudy copper with a small rich beige head. Sweet, raisin, light tobacco and brown sugar. Not bad at all.

On tap at Strange Fellows, pours a cloudy deep orangey brown with a small beige head. Nose is authentic for a dubbel, with a dark dried fruits, bready caramel malt, Belgian yeast and candied sugar. Flavour is similar, with notes of alcohol upfront, followed by toffee, burnt sugar and Belgian yeast. Good amount of sweetness here. A little hot, but it's quite complex and cohesive. Very nice stuff.
