Opaque dark brown beer, short tan head. Palate is semi dry and very lightly crisp. Mild smooth dark malts. Touch of unsweet dark chocolate. This year the apple brandy infusion is flavoursome and yet mellow. It tastes of, well duh, little light apple and mellow winey brandy. Light finish. Nicely joined up and pretty drinkable.

Craft Islington bottleshare. Touch of chocolate here. Nice tangy toffee - apple. Smooth and spicy finish. Good stuff.

Bottle at home. Pours a black colour with a small. light brown head. Aroma of roasted malt, soy sauce, oak, dark chocolate, dried fruit, licorice and dark berries. The flavour has even more roastedness along with coffee, ash, cough syrup and fruity tones in the background. Has a silky mouth feel, and a light bitterness. A nice roasted and fruity old ale. Really complex and tasteful.

660ml bottle @ the 5th Shrewsbury Bottle Share May 14, courtesy of Simon. Brilliantly complex, ever evolving beer this was the beer of the night for me. Earthy spice, warming malts and an apple brandy influence that permeates the aroma alongside dusty cocoa and gives subtle nudges throughout. Definitely reminded me of t’Ij’s Struis in terms of a depth of dark flavours and smooth mouthfeel. Very nice beer indeed, may have to purchase another bottle to enjoy properly.

660ml Bottle shared between four during the 2014 May Shrewsbury Beer Exchange, cheers Simon for bringing this. Lovely dark brew with a deep beige head. Loads of coffee and chocolate in the aroma and taste with a toffee apple undertone from the barrels it’s been aged in. Smooth, almost oily in texture with so much going on in the mouth that it was difficult to comprehend and identify all the flavours as they came so thick and fast. The sort of brew that needs you to be sat with your feet up in front of an open fire and plenty of time on your hands to fully appreciate it.

Sample from 66 cl. bottle. Pitch black with a thin, tanned head. Sweet, toasted aroma with caramel malts, liquorice, light barrel and overripe fruits. Taste is sweet. Medium to full body with an oily texture and a flat carbonation. Finishes sweet with toasted malts and overripe fruits.

Small brown head doesn’t last. Opaque black body. Roasty earthy chocolatey aroma with spicy linoleum notes. Dry-sweet apple and chocolate taste with spicy roasty notes. Mid-to-full body. Mild, soft, mealy mouthfeel. Dryish earthy chocolatey linoleum aftertaste with spicy winter apple notes. Lingering spicy wooden earthy lacquer and chocolate flavour lingers. My initial expectations for this were zero, but this is actually a very good beer. Subtle, drinkable, and full of flavour. (0.66l bottle, from wine monopoly web order.)
