Cantillon Zwanze 2013 is the sixth release in the Zwanze series of beers. This series has been released every year since 2008, and beginning in 2011, with a coordinated celebration around the world at various beer bars, breweries, and restaurants. The 2013 edition is a top-fermented abbey ale closely resembling a Belgian tripel in style, with lambic added.

The yeast was selected in collaboration with the Institut Meurice, a college in Brussels specializing in biotechnology. This means that Zwanze 13 is not a lambic, in spite of the interaction of the spontaneous yeasts at the brewery, and lambic having been blended in. It is however another example of a growing number of ale / lambic blends.

Bottle @ Cantillon. Hazy burnt golden pour with a frothy offwhite head. malty, fruity & funky nose with rustic bread, caramel, lemon, dried dark fruits, hay, cobweb & leather. Tiny sour, slightly bitter, slightly malty & funky taste. Dry, slightly tart & tiny astringent mouthfeel. Nice funk but doesn't quite manage to get all the components of the beer working together. --- Beer merged from original tick of Zwanze 2013 - Abbaye de Cureghem on 21 Jun 2016 at 15:13 - Score: 6. Original review text: Nicely funky but a bit all over the place failing to get the rustic malts, light acidity, bitterness and funk working in harmony.

Bottle shared at the brewery. Pours an opaque, yellow color, with a small, off-white head. Vanilla, oak, and booze on the nose. Notes of bitter roots, and licorice. Sweet and boozy, and surprisingly bitter. Medium to heavy body, with a thick, acidic, and warming mouthfeel. This was startling, in middle of all the lambics. Strong, bitter, strange, yet still pretty tasty.

Wenig karbonisierter Antrunk. Moderate Säure, brotig würzig. Mild herb, was in einer vinösen dunklen Getreidigkeit endet. Ledrig, die Säure wird einen Ticken stärker. Wenig fruchtig, weich holziger Mittelteil und Nachgeschmack, holzig bleibend, süffig. Gut. 10/12/12/11/10/11

Bottle shared at the brewery. Fantastic spicy dark beginning. Very deep and flavourful. Christmas spices together with dark malt and caramel. The sourness is low, fits in completely! Cinnamon and clove, malt and a smooth sourness with sweetish hints. Fantastic.

Bottle at the brewpub. Pours foggy amber. Aroma is light booze, malty, almond. Body is medium, quite sweet, late bitterness, low carbonation, rather inharmonic. Palate is boozy and unbalanced too. Clearly not their best.

Bottle at Cantillon. Aroma of barley, old hops and oak. Taste is dry and malty, bit like a sour barley wine, with old hops and lots of tart. Not the best Cantillon, but still interesting.

On tap at Avenue Pub. Pours a cloudy orange with small off white head that lasts. The aroma is funk, leather, brett, lemon zest. Medium body, earth, funk, lemon, orange peel, wood, light tartness, very good.

Bottle at Cantillon. Hazy dark golden with a lasting white head. Malty aroma with herbal and funky notes. Malty flavour with a little caramel, fruit and funk. At the same time hoppy bitter and lambic tart, and it’s not working out well.
