Cantillon Zwanze 2013 is the sixth release in the Zwanze series of beers. This series has been released every year since 2008, and beginning in 2011, with a coordinated celebration around the world at various beer bars, breweries, and restaurants. The 2013 edition is a top-fermented abbey ale closely resembling a Belgian tripel in style, with lambic added.

The yeast was selected in collaboration with the Institut Meurice, a college in Brussels specializing in biotechnology. This means that Zwanze 13 is not a lambic, in spite of the interaction of the spontaneous yeasts at the brewery, and lambic having been blended in. It is however another example of a growing number of ale / lambic blends.

Bottle at Cantillon. Golden brown colour. Aroma is very interesting, fruity, bit smelly. Taste is light. Very little sourness, almost some boozy sweetness. Finish is fruity, citrus, and bit of tropical fruit. Grapes too maybe. Further down sourness comes hard. Flat creaminess. Good stuff. --- Beer merged from original tick of Zwanze (2013) Abbaye de Cureghem on 09 Sep 2019 at 16:05 - Score: Appearance - 6 | Aroma - 9 | Flavor - 9 | Texture - 8 | Overall - 9. Bottle @ Cantillon. Hazy burnt golden pour with a frothy offwhite head. malty, fruity & funky nose with rustic bread, caramel, lemon, dried dark fruits, hay, cobweb & leather. Tiny sour, slightly bitter, slightly malty & funky taste. Dry, slightly tart & tiny astringent mouthfeel. Nice funk but doesn't quite manage to get all the components of the beer working together. --- Beer merged from original tick of Zwanze 2013 - Abbaye de Cureghem on 21 Jun 2016 at 15:13 - Score: 6. Original review text: Nicely funky but a bit all over the place failing to get the rustic malts, light acidity, bitterness and funk working in harmony.
