Cantillon Zwanze 2013 is the sixth release in the Zwanze series of beers. This series has been released every year since 2008, and beginning in 2011, with a coordinated celebration around the world at various beer bars, breweries, and restaurants. The 2013 edition is a top-fermented abbey ale closely resembling a Belgian tripel in style, with lambic added.

The yeast was selected in collaboration with the Institut Meurice, a college in Brussels specializing in biotechnology. This means that Zwanze 13 is not a lambic, in spite of the interaction of the spontaneous yeasts at the brewery, and lambic having been blended in. It is however another example of a growing number of ale / lambic blends.

Bottle at the factory. Almost clear pale amber. Bubbly glossy white head. Nose has semi sweet malt. Some Sherry like notes. Raisins. Some oxidation. Some leathery notes. Taste is fairly sweet first with some herbal bitterness. Light dry with some tartness. Drinks fair overall. Some tannins on the finish. Nice tick.

Bottle at Cantillon. Golden brown colour. Aroma is very interesting, fruity, bit smelly. Taste is light. Very little sourness, almost some boozy sweetness. Finish is fruity, citrus, and bit of tropical fruit. Grapes too maybe. Further down sourness comes hard. Flat creaminess. Good stuff. --- Beer merged from original tick of Zwanze (2013) Abbaye de Cureghem on 09 Sep 2019 at 16:05 - Score: Appearance - 6 | Aroma - 9 | Flavor - 9 | Texture - 8 | Overall - 9.
