#MashTag was an epic experiment in crowdsourcing, which handed the keys to the brewery over to craft beer drinkers for a week. We asked you guys via Facebook and Twitter to direct all the elements of the brew and you decided to brew a 7.5% American Brown Ale with oak chips and hazelnuts.

Bottle from Bottle Park. Aroma is perceptibly nutty, with light fruity hops background. Clear dark brown colour. Taste is fruity up front, assertive bitterness, but in excellent balance with nutty biscuity caramelly maltiness. Just a slightest hint of roast, mostly in finish. Full bodied, easily drinkable. Long balanced finish. Very good experiment.

Bottle from CBB. A pitch black pour with a foamy beige head. Fruity, figs, malts in the nose. Medium bodied with a slightly rough mouthfeel from the carbonation. The taste is chocolate, bitter dark chocolate, some cherries but I don’t get much oak or hazelnuts. Not bad. It opened up somewhat after warming up but stayed in the well made but average category.

BOTTLE 33CL from dEnk (thanks, Colin!)
Look: deep red-brow almost black and clear with an small espresso frothy head with poor retention.
Aroma: malty, quite roasty and nutty, nice roasted acidity, salty even, some caramel/licorice.
Taste: dry, roasted, slightly salt, ashy, light hop bitterness.
A very stouty broen ale that is.
