Bottle. A- Caramel, subtle pine, oak, subtle citrus. A- Burnt orange color, clear liquid, off white head. T- Rye, malty, grains, caramel, bitter. P- Medium body, average texture, average carbonation, balanced. O- At first whiff this smells pretty solid. With time that fades slightly and the taste is nothing special. What I first thought would be a meh beer turned into a pleasant surprise after smelling it and then back to just okay and drinking it. Still not too bad, especially for an amber ale.

Draught at The Blackbird, Vancouver
Beautiful red dark amber color with thick head. Initially not has some band aid smell, although it gets better later. Light sweetness complementing the dark caramel flavor and some fruity esters from.a good yeast. Correct bitterness with light final nuttiness.
Solid brew.

From a bot, weird rough looking rocky head, unique appearance. Very strong initial hop impressions, somewhat astringent. Color is darker like a yeengy. Yes, astringent is the word fer sure, quite medicinal. Difficult towards the end. Rude hop flavor makes the co2 almost unnoticeable. Not impressed.

Pours deep mahogany into a shaker. Off-white head with little retention recedes to hug rim. Bitter earth and caramel aromas. Sweet candy corn and caramel upfront turning to bitter pith and earth in the lasting finish.

Bottle at America on Tap Deep copper color with a decent off white head. Rich toffee and caramel maltiness with a hint of toffee offset with some solid pine and earth. Nice cooler weather beer.

Bottled 8/24/15, drunk 10/2/15.
Copper-amber with some darker cherry tints and a white head that is foamy and shows moderate retention.
Light yeast stink, leafy, green hops and definite pine and cherry show off what must be a pretty near cascade/cluster hop variety. Lots of grapefruit, toffee and biscuity malts, quite assertive and with some but not an obnoxious amount of crystal malts.
Spicy, piney, with orange zest, rye and plentiful sticky resin in the mouth. Rather highly carbonated, with a bit too much pepperiness to it. Kind of reminds me of the Green Flash Road Warrior I had not too long ago. I can’t think of any mind blowing Red IPAs or Red Rye Strong ales. Even the best that come to mind, Shark Attack and Reds Rye have much more supple malting instead of the hard, dry, slick texture imparted by too much specialty malt, crystal malt and rye. The malt profile just inherently dosent work with dry, spicy, strongly citric and piney hops that these types are inevitably always brewed with. Anyways, this is pretty middle-of-the-road for the style and does have a little bit more sweetness than average contributing a touch more drinkability than usual.
