Inspired by insomnia, the Kompaan 39 Bloedbroeder is a blackened imperial stout with an extra bloodtype: ruby port. Blood brothers: the strongest bonds that exist! This beer is brewed with a variety of malts (black and roasted) with little sweet notes, a bitter aftertaste, and at 9.1%, it has a light hoppiness. A beer to sit down with!

Poured from a bottle courtesy of my Summer Secret Santa. Aroma is slightly roasty with some moderate toasted bread notes. Some light phenolic notes and a bit of a vegetable aroma. Some light woodsy hop notes and light ash notes. Light chocolate. Pours a dark brown, almost black with a large, fairly thick, light mocha head that slowly but steadily recedes. Moderately high lacing and medium long legs. Flavor is slightly sweet upfront with a bit of chocolate. Moderate roast notes with some lighter ash and tobacco. Moderately high bitterness with some alcohol spice. Medium woody hop notes with a light vegetable note. Light phenolics. Mouthfeel is medium bodied with medium high carbonation. Low astringency and medium low alcohol warmth. Overall, an alright beer though I think the vegetable note is a sign of something bad for this batch. Roast works well with the hoppy notes. Not too sweet and chocolate forward. Perhaps a bit thin in the mouhtfeel.

Black color with a frothy and creamy beige head with perfect retention. Aroma has notes of coffee beans, roasted malts and licorice. Flavos is slightly bittery with black chocolate and roasted malts, some smoke notes with black fruits. Bitterness in the final with a cremay and smooth mouthfeel.

330ml bottle. Quasi black colour with small to average, thick, frothy, fairly lasting, minimally lacing, beige to tan head. Smoky, roasty, dark malty aroma, hints of ashes and ham, "background-ish" chocolate notes. Taste is slightly sweet dark malty, dry roasty, minimally smoky, hints of treacle, port, plum, raisin; lasting finish with increasing dryness, slightly sticky palate. Guess I’d have voted for Baltic Porter in a blind tasting.
