Double Stout, part of Shepherd Neame’s Classic Collection range of beers, is based on a recipe discovered in a coded brewers’ log unearthed in the brewery archives.
Made with a blend of four different malts with a firm bitterness courtesy of local Kentish hops, it is a velvety smooth beer with dry, burnt flavours and cocoa and coffee notes.

Coffee nose. Deep dark brown colour with a red hue, good frothy tan head, good retention, heavy lacing. Aroma roasted malt, coffee, light cocoa and caramel. Taste medium sweet and bitter, roasted malt, coffee, light chocolate, ash, light caramel. Lingering roasty sweetbitter aftertaste, coffee notes. Medium body, oily texture, soft carbonation, very good stout.

500 ml bottle. Murky black with big stable mocha head. Liquorice, cocoa, toffee, fudge, caramel, ashes, metal. Strong bitterness, malty sweetness. Full bodied, oily texture, soft carbonated, long bitter finish. So nice!

The raters who judged this beer to be 92nd percentile are clearly mostly English, as this stout is not as good as is claimed. It is to the classic style, but not very complex, a simple 3-4 malt bill and nothing coming from the yeast. Craft beer dresdn

Flaske fra Kilpishalli. Svart. Høyt luftig lysebrunt skum som daler sakte og etterlater pen lacing. Aroma av sjokolade & lakris. Myk munnfølelse. Smaken lettrøkt malt & sjokolade. Balansert. Kakao i ettersmaken. Bra øl!

500ml bottle. Pours a clear dark brown almost black with red hue and a large, creamy, long lasting, tan head that leaves curtains of lace. Aroma of roasted malt, dark chocolate, caramel, earth and coffee. Sweet flavour of roasted malt, dark chocolate, licorice, caramel and ash with a dry, bitter coffee finish. Medium body with a creamy, smooth, oily texture and soft carbonation. Decent.
