“Doppel” meaning “double,” this style is a bigger and stronger version of the lower-gravity German-style bock beers. Originally made by monks in Munich, the dopplebock beer style is very food-friendly and rich in melanoidins reminiscent of toasted bread. We add our own twist with the addition of our house roasted coffee. A dark brown body with aromas of coffee, malts, caramel sweetness, ending with a bitter finish.

0.33l bottle from beermerchants.com This one pours a deep deep ruby red un-transparent (you can actually almost call it murky after a while) body with a massive and lasting fluffy beige head. On the aroma this one is sweet with lots of chocolate - like in chocolate milkshake- , some nice coffee, caramel, also kinda woody with a hint of nice licorice all the way in the back next side with some sour- almost acidic hoppy-cherries. Quite a nice and complex aroma! In the flavor I also get a soft acidic hint - almost like it's on the verge on a infection, just not quite there. Also, some nice chocolaty and clear coffee touches here. It's average carbonated and it has a light oily texture in the mouth. yeah, has this been barreled or something? I get that clear hint of wild yeast in this one, and actually some berries also. The black currant ones that is. It's light mouth drying all the way in the end and it's leaving a long lasting light chocolaty aftertaste in the mouth. Quite a nice one, reminds me in many ways of a Oud Bruin. Quite suiting for the Easter time. 07.04.2012

Bottle. Although this beer was kind of fun to drink - It’s hard not to see all it’s faults. The doppelbock behind all the crazy seasoning is just not good enough. It’s thin and can’t relly handle all the coffee, licorice and"snus" notes,

355ml bottle served chilled from the fridge at Nørrebro Bryghus. Near-clear, dark red-brown body under a firm, off-white head. Coffee-chocolate aroma. Coffee and cocoa powder in flavour. Bitter mocha-coffee finish. Well balanced and likable (Copenhagen, 04.11.2011).

Tap @ Dark Horse. Dark reddish brown appearance with a smallish tan head that has big bubbles. Toasty, nutty, caramel malty, mild bitter coffee aroma. Bitter coffee ground, caramel, mild toffee, slightly nutty flavor. Pretty good brew. Interesting idea to add coffee to a doppelbock.

Purchased at Armanetti’s in Chicago, IL; enjoyed before going to see the new Harold & Kumar movie. Appearance is like cold coffee, slightly dark brown with thin white head. Aroma of pure coffee beans, smells like they added the whole beans to the fermentation tank, really nice slightly dark roast, I homebrewed a beer that smelled like this and it takes me back. The coffee really does encompass the entire aroma, not a bad thing though. Taste of pure coffee with maybe a touch of malt in the back end. It goes down pretty thick, medium carbonation. I like it but can’t see myself sticking to more than 1.

Pours a slightly hazy dark brown with lots of carb bubbles rising toward a bubbly tan cap on top. Lots of coffee on the nose would be an understatement. I think I find hints of chocolate and caramel underneath but honestly I can’t smell past the coffee. If its any consolation its a very pleasant coffee aroma not harsh or acrid like some have made. Taste is coffee right up front, and in the finish. There is some melanoid and caramel flavors about midway through but they are quickly displaced by java. Medium body and carbonation level, slick bubbly mouthfeel. Nice drinking beer flavored coffee, oh wait its the other way around. I liked this one but at times had trouble finding a dopplebock in my glass.
