“Doppel” meaning “double,” this style is a bigger and stronger version of the lower-gravity German-style bock beers. Originally made by monks in Munich, the dopplebock beer style is very food-friendly and rich in melanoidins reminiscent of toasted bread. We add our own twist with the addition of our house roasted coffee. A dark brown body with aromas of coffee, malts, caramel sweetness, ending with a bitter finish.

Bottle from De Molen, Bodegraven, Netherlands, 24.09.11 consumed outside Frank (camper) at Woerden, Netherlands 25.09.11 Pours conker brown with a small beige head. Good Doppelbock nose however I also get a light waftiness of swimming pool strangely it isn’t off putting but it is there. Some coffee in mouth along with demara sugar, soft in mouth with a gentle carbonation, alcohol shows. A6 A4 T7 P3 Ov13 3.3

Immediate coffee hit. Different than usual, like trying a new brand of coffee. A spice-like feel in the background and some bread

Huge tan lasting head. Barely translucent deep dark brown body. Fruity mealy deep cold coffee aroma with earthy floral notes. Dry-sweet chocolate and cold coffee taste with mealy herbal notes. Mid-bodied. Mild, soft and light and fluffy mouthfeel. Dryish chocolate, earth, and coffee grains aftertaste with roasty grainy notes. Lovely! Excellent! Crazily drinkable. (0.355l bottle, Olympen, Oslo.)

Bottle from Havnens, Vejle
Dark amber to brown color with red hue, hazy; generous head; evident sediment, is it a bottle conditioned Doppelbock???
I’m not convinced by the aroma of coffee pot (office stryle), but there is a nice peppery note.
The body is medium structured, and the mouthfeel tends to be dry, also because of the high carbonation; if it’s a true Doppelbock, the fragile malt and caramel flavor is partially covered by the quite strong coffee; some liquorice appears, uninvited; the bitterness level is medium strong, including the charred bitterness from the coffee.
Interesting for the experience, but not fully convincing after all.

12 oz bottle @ home. Dark redbrown color. The last bit of the bottle pours out a dark blob in the glass. Beige head. Strong aroma of coffee/roast. Flavor is slightly sweet and there is a hint of tartness, perhaps due to high carbonation. More coffee, roast and a little bitterness in the finish. Aroma was promising, but could have been better.

Bottle, courtesy of Papsoe. A gusher, producing a clear, chestnut body and a dense off-white to beige head. Coffee dominated aroma with a chocolate touch and some dried fruits. Smooth, full-bodied and slightly warming. The flavor isn’t as much on the coffee side, it’s more on the hop bitter side. Some caramel and roasted notes. A wonderful beer, but there’s not much left of the doppelbock aromas and flavors. Would very much like to have more of this one. Rating: 8-4-8-4-15-3.9. 110129

Bottle. A dense, finger-thick, light beige head tops a clear-looking dark golden to light brown body. Intense, almost spiced coffee aroma with coffee, chocolate and some hops. Really wonderful, almost deserving a full score on aroma. The flavor is pretty much the same, although less intense, with sweetness and an almost chili like spicyness. Full-bodied, lighlty warming and sweetish, yet with a drying feeling. Coffee and chili-ish finish. Just plain wonderful. 111209
