What is a Dortmunder Lager Style you say?
In the mid-19th century, breweries in Dortmund, Germany began brewing a common style of lager that was slightly stronger in alcohol, and that sought a balance between classic German noble hops and the sweetness of pale malts. Where the classic pilsner offered a more pronounced hop aroma and character, the Dortmunder lager offered a firm and even dryness with a slightly alcoholic warmth. The export version of the Dortmunder lager was noticeably higher in alcohol content.
At 5.5% alc./vol. it is stronger than many lagers in the North American market. Compared to mainstream lagers, it is a more full-bodied and less gaseous edition of the lager style. We think it’s delicious - we hope you do too.

Wow! A pale lager that actually has some hop aroma and flavour! Grassy, and subtle, with some super solid cereals. The mouth feel is a little fuller than I expected, but the flavour is there. The ultimate lawn mower beer. A great pale lager. This should be in ever bar to convert macro drinkers.

(Can) Pours clear golden with no head. Sweet grainy aroma. Light body with restrained carbonation. There’s some sweetness with some rather harsh bitterness. Not very pleasant.

Draft - Sweet grains. Clear gold with a decent white head. Pale malts and grains with a nice sweetness. Sweet, harmless and light.

On tap at Howe Sound, pours a clear pale golden yellow with a small white head. Nose brings out notes of corn, light grass and crisp crackery malt. Flavour is very clean and refreshing, with notes of grassy notes, corn, and crisp biscuity malt. Seems more like a pils than regular pale lager. Clean and refreshing. Very nice.

Thanks to AleRider78 for this one. Pours a hazy golden-amber colour with a frothy off-white head that stays a while and gives out thick foamy lacing. Cereal malts with a little sweetness giving notes of fruits (oranges, raisins, prunes, apricots). The taste is more on the caramel side with a quick finish. Better than a typical macro lager, this Dortmunder is quite easy to drink. Pretty different than their 1L brews, but does the job.

Sweet, bland, pale stuff. I guess they sell it but I can’t imagine why. It’s certainly nothing close to a dortmunder - not even a bad one.

Tap @ Malone’s. Medium head with medium duration. Color is amber. Aroma and taste are grass, malt, notes of soap and hops.

Draught at the Alibi Room, Vancouver
Deep blond color; compact head. A simple Lager, dry, correctly bodied, with a touch of peanuts both in the aroma and flavor; correct bitterness, the final is also a bit metallic.
