Beware, this is a BIG beer. Brimming with luscious roasted coffee and chocolate malt flavours which are balanced by a brisk bitterness and bold freshness from the hops. If you’re feeling politically incorrect try it with your favourite cigar, or a dram of your best single malt whisky. Or, if your tooth is sweeter, why not jump in at the deep end with the most decadent dessert of all; half a bottle in a glass with a generous scoop of vanilla ice cream on top (beer geeks like us know it as the Imperial Stout Float). Or simply enjoy it on its own as a decadent dessert or night cap - the perfect winter warmer! If you don’t already know the history of Russian Imperial Stouts please check it out on the internet, it’s a good story. But remember, although based on that century-old classic style, this beer is a very modern interpretation, like all our beers!

500mL bottle, pours pitch black with a small light brown head. Aroma of roasted malt, chocolate, espresso and light licorice. Flavour contains molasses, milk chocolate, roasted malt, a bit of darkly roasted espresso. Silky smooth, velvety texture on the tongue, with a roasty, milky finish. Extremely smooth and drinkable.

33cl bottle from eDrinks, Tallinn. Pours very dark brown, close to black, with a fairly modest beige head. Roasty and chocolaty aroma with coffee, some wooden notes, dark fruits and hints of spices. Sweet, smooth and roasty with a balanced bitterness and warming alcohol. Delicious dessert!

Pitch black, opaque color, beige head. Great smell of hops, chocolate, toffee, coffee, roasted and burned malts. Taste a little coffee, roasty, chocolate and lightly hops. A little weak though, little thin somehow, yet dry and also oily. Decent carbonation, medium body.

Bottle @ home. Dark color, short brown head. Lovely aroma of dark chocolat, mocha, hint of vanilla, hint of coffee, slight hop. Reasonably sweet, quite bitter, bit creamy. Awesome balance. Great balanced RIS. Nothing outspoken, nothing over the top, but just very nicely balanced. Good beer.

Sample at Ale Wine & Spirits in Powell on 09/02/2011. Pours black with a medium thick and fluffy beige head that recedes slowly. Patches of lacing on the glass. Aroma of roasted malt, chocolate and coffee. Medium to full body with a roasty coffee and malt character and flavors of dark chocolate and a touch of oak. The finish is charred malt with a black coffee aftertaste. Solid Stout all around.

Bottle for the Co-Op in Davis, CA. Pours very dk brown/black with a slight creamy tan head. Aromas of chocolate and prune. Full bodied. Flavor is lightly smoked burnt malt, coffee and chocolate. Fruit? It’s definitely bitter. Not harsh tho. Just burnt, chocolaty and bitter. Nice stuff.
