In this cultural mash-up, we marry the tropical flavours of Sri Lanka to a traditional Belgian abbey ale. The rich, sweet flavour of treacle made from the sap of the kithul tree is balanced by the tartness of tamarind fruit. Together with the fruity and spicy flavours from Belgian yeast and Czech hops, this beer will make an excellent accompaniment to desserts and South Asian cuisine.

Florals and light tamarind, prune. Treacle is pretty light. Decent balance on this. Hazy brown pour with decent head. Light sweet end. Can.

On tap at Dageraad. Pours murky dull orange with a white head. Not getting much on the nose. Flavour has subdued Belgian yeast, thick caramel, a touch dry grass. Nothing wrong here, but the beer lacks a particular character.

A very nice dubbel. The adjuncts don't stand out particularly, but it all blends together well.

Has very nice foam on a mellow cloudy brownish orange body. The aroma is nice fruity malt, soft chewy hops, slight vegetal burlap. Flavour is bright yeasty malt, full on Belgian brun character, chewy hazelnut, wood notes. Full and nice sweetness on the finish. Smooth and malty, very enjoyable.

Amber, but quite cloudy/muddy, surprisingly not much head. The aroma is lightly citrusy, hint of yeastiness. On the palate, a bit of dubbel phenols, light saltiness, touch of plum, and some sweet, slightly chewy maltiness. Ok, maybe not to the usual Dageraad standards.

650 ml bottle. Pours a light mahogany color with light head. Aromas of Belgian yeast, brown sugar, copper, and raisins. Flavors carry same with the tamarind coming though with a bit of spice and dried fruit (I think). A little light on flavor but still very much on style for a Dubbel.

Poured from the tap. Hazy dark orange with off white head. Belgian yeast, stone fruit and subtle caramel, hints of tamarind (more on the aroma).

On tap at the Alibi Room, pours an opaque orange with a small white head. Aroma brings out prominent Belgian yeast, caramel and a dry hoppiness. Flavour is well-balanced, with Belgian yeast and dry caramel bready malt. Not the most complex beer, but everything is balanced well and there is nothing wrong with it. Solid stuff.

Draught at Alibi Room, Vancouver, 600th Menu Party
Cloudy orange-amber color. Aroma of fruits (peach...), pond water, some Belgian yeast; strange but nice. Good body, lean, moderately sweet, with a good work both with the malt and the yeast, more fruity than the average American/Belgian beer, but also more character, quite Belgian; good bitterness level. Perfectly balanced; multi-layered.
Excellent.
