Very clear golden and peach coloured body with a very thin, single centimetre tall pure white head that fades fairly quickly and doesn't show much movement at all in this one, despite the wax-sealed cap. Aroma of alcohol, deep malts, astringent wood, cedar and a lot of funky cherry notes with some yeast, light tartness and a dash of apple cider vinegar. Medium to Full-bodied; Super rich malt body with a lot of alcohol warmth, some relatively pungent astringent medicinal pungency that hits the yeast, grain and deep fruity notes on the high level with some lighter cherry notes that do show some tart flavours, but really, the fruits that come out are on the pure alcohol and pungent side that show bitter astringency versus complex characteristics. Aftertaste shows a lot of the cherry notes, despite most of them being on the alcohol, warmth and bitter side, but a lot of dry cedar and woods here along with the very pungent grainy and malt notes that give this a very strong malt backbone throughout. Overall, a very funky and incredibly pungent malt-forward beer with some cherry notes, but those are on the end of cough syrup and pungency versus smooth, sweet and nuanced flavours, in a less-than-great way. Still, decent enough to try after all these years, but I do wish I drank this sooner and saved some of the room in my cellar for 'better' beers. I sampled this 65 cL green-wax-sealed bottle purchased from Belmont Station in Portland, Oregon on 10-March-2015 for US$15,59 sampled at my house back in Washington on 22-August-2020, close to FIVE and a half years later. This one was bottled (and signed) on 09-December-2014, almost six years prior to drinking.

Bottle - Cherries and vinegar and boozer. Clear reddish copper with a thin white head. Tart cherry and acetone with vinegar notes. Bit herbal and medicinal. I am not a fan.

Green wax-dipped bomber, signed by someone--the brewer I guess. Aroma is overripe cherries, yogurt, funk, wood. Pours a nearly clear rose color with a medium white-purple head that falls after a minute. Taste is lightly tart (6/10 on a sour scale), sweet, with strong overripe cherry flavor; finishes fairly bitter with the fruit lingering long after the swallow. The oak comes through with strong vanilla (I can’t remember ever tasting this much vanilla in a sour ale before), wood, tannins from either the red wine barrel or the cherries themselves--maybe both. Doesn’t taste anywhere near 10% ABV. This is really different than any sour ale I’ve ever had. It’s unique for sure. I think it’s getting underrated on here.

22 Oz waxed bottle poured and split. Thanks Chris C. for sharing. Pours a pink tinted golden color with with an odd winish aroma. Flavor is similar to a cherry juice infused champagne. Sour berry flavor is nice, but there is something a little odd here. Biting finish. Not bad, more just strange. Has potential.
