The Beast is a seducer - accomodating, complicated, powerful, dark and created to last the ages. Beyond this, it’s futile to attempt to describe Him. He will unveil Himself differently to each of His followers. The mark is in His constitution. Brewed with two-row malted barley, honey malt, and imported Belgian specialty grains (aromatic, pale wheat, roasted wheat, and Special B), hops (Magnum, Galena, Saaz, Hallertau, Tettnang, and Hersbrucker), brewing sugars (raisins, dates, blackstrap molasses, alfalfa honey, turbinado, and dark Belgian candy sugar), water, Belgian yeast and another hellion of a yeast strain.OG: 1.138

Batch 11 (2013) Pours clear dark ruby red color with beige head. Aromas of dark fruits, dough and alcohol. Raisin and plum flavors with some yeast. Quite boozy. Full body with moderate carbonation and a syrupy mouthfeel. A nice sipper.

Soo much smoother than the 2013. NOT! But I love it. Just like the World Wide Stout from Dogfish Head.(Not in style) Ridiculously strong but

Still very young but I can taste the potential. I had a 5 year old one before. ;^) Big, sweet, molasses and honey with the dates, yes.

2004 bottle from my cellar. At the time I purchased this, everyone recommended some cellar time; this has had 9 years at 63 degrees in total darkness. Pours clear and dark with lots of ruby notes under a small off-white head. Initially the aroma was nail polish remover. After a bit of time in the glass some cherry comes forward. The flavor is chocolate covered cherry filling with lots of extra alcohol. A good brandy is smoother with less alcohol burn. I can’t imagine how hot this was fresh. Accelerant!

On tap at Avery. 2009 aged. Poured a reddish dark amber with a super thin white head and a rich consistency. The aroma is rich fruit and boozy alcohol. The flavour is medium to strong bitter with a sweet fruit alcohol liqourice palate. A super strong super rich beer and like most of the strong beers from Avery the alcohol is really well controlled. A great end to a memorable tasting at the brewery.

Bottle on Amtrak Train 27 - The Empire Builder ( from Binny’s South Loop) - 04/11/12. Batch 10 - 2012 @ 16% ABV. Clear chestnut brown with reddish hues, good sized off white head that retains well. Malt forward nose, dark toffee, caramelised dark sugars, raisens, prunes and booze. Taste follows from nose, Xmas pudding meets malt loaf in taste, fairly complex and whilst booze is more than evident it is well disguised for 16% ! Full bodied with very soft carbonation leading to a sweet boozy finish.
