The Beast is a seducer - accomodating, complicated, powerful, dark and created to last the ages. Beyond this, it’s futile to attempt to describe Him. He will unveil Himself differently to each of His followers. The mark is in His constitution. Brewed with two-row malted barley, honey malt, and imported Belgian specialty grains (aromatic, pale wheat, roasted wheat, and Special B), hops (Magnum, Galena, Saaz, Hallertau, Tettnang, and Hersbrucker), brewing sugars (raisins, dates, blackstrap molasses, alfalfa honey, turbinado, and dark Belgian candy sugar), water, Belgian yeast and another hellion of a yeast strain.OG: 1.138

Clear ruby red beer, big creamy yellow to beige head, stable, bit adhesive. Aroma: raisins, ripe fruits, dried figs, grains, sweet caramel, overripe fruits. MF: ok carbon, medium to full body. Taste: sweet sugary start, peppery, alcohol, raisins, some caramel. Aftertaste: caramel, sweet, dried fruits, alcohol, bit spicy, bitter hops, sugary, overripe bananas.

Aroma is rather sweet on malt, also some ripe fruits. Flavour is very sweet with shitloads of malt, some ripe fruits and warming alcohol. Four years and this is still 10/10 on my scale of sweetness – I wonder how long would I need to age this?

2011 bottle. Pours a dark cloudy brown ale with a large frothy beige head leaving sticky lacing along the glass. The aroma is a sweet fruit and bready malt. Thin mouthfeel with a rich brown sugar and caramel with a slight alcohol burn finish. Not as overpowering as expected a good Belgian stronga ale from Avery.

12oz bottle from Pick’s poured into a Trappist glass. 2011 vintage. Pours a cloudy nut brown with almost no head. Aroma is mostly booze but also has some dried dark fruits, a little Belgian sugar and a little caramel. Taste is heavily sweet. Has a huge alcohol burn with a good bit of Belgian sugar, caramel and dark fruit. Some bourbon barrel wood and a little vanilla in there too. Almost reminds me of a less sweet port wine. Full bodied with a thick texture. Soft carbonation and a long finish. Overall, very good. A little bit more boozy than I like but at almost 17%, what else would you expect.

2005 version shared thanks to Deanso. Red brown pour with small beige head. Aroma of raisins and dark fruit with caramel. Sticky sweet flavour with same fruit and raisin aspects

Shared bottle at local tasting, thanks to gunnar. Batch 6 2008, 16,31% ABV. Hazy dark brown colour, moderate beige head. Intense aroma and flavour of malts, molasses and alcohol. Simply too much of the good stuff - there’s no way I could have finished a bottle of this beer on my own.

Tap @ the brewery. Pours dark brown with a small white head. Aroma of fruit, sweet malt, fruity hops, sugar. Taste is malts , belgian yeast, orangepeel, fruit, pine and grapefruit hops. Full body, low carbonation. 270211

Bottle from Lighthouse. Bright amber color, medium white head with poor retention. Aroma of lightly spiced caramel. Taste is boozy spiced caramel. Straightforward.

12 oz. bottle, pours dark ruby red with a small beige head. Aroma of strong alcohol, sherry/brandy, sweet caramel, dark fruits and Belgian yeast. Flavour of brandy, sweet caramel, dried fruits (figs, dates, prunes) and a massive alcohol kick, even more than expected from the 16.21% tag on this bottle. Extreme sweetness, certainly in the cloying realm, along with the harsh booziness detracts this from being one of the more enjoyable really high ABV beers.
