The Beast is a seducer - accomodating, complicated, powerful, dark and created to last the ages. Beyond this, it’s futile to attempt to describe Him. He will unveil Himself differently to each of His followers. The mark is in His constitution. Brewed with two-row malted barley, honey malt, and imported Belgian specialty grains (aromatic, pale wheat, roasted wheat, and Special B), hops (Magnum, Galena, Saaz, Hallertau, Tettnang, and Hersbrucker), brewing sugars (raisins, dates, blackstrap molasses, alfalfa honey, turbinado, and dark Belgian candy sugar), water, Belgian yeast and another hellion of a yeast strain.OG: 1.138

12 oz. bottle, pours dark ruby red with a small beige head. Aroma of strong alcohol, sherry/brandy, sweet caramel, dark fruits and Belgian yeast. Flavour of brandy, sweet caramel, dried fruits (figs, dates, prunes) and a massive alcohol kick, even more than expected from the 16.21% tag on this bottle. Extreme sweetness, certainly in the cloying realm, along with the harsh booziness detracts this from being one of the more enjoyable really high ABV beers.

2005 vintage. Pours black. Nose is molasses, strong brown sugar, beet sugar, cane sugar, tar and burnt caramelized apples. Taste is velvety chocolate, intensely sweet caramel and dark fruits and a very long alcohol burn in the finish.

Pours a dirty amber color with finger sized head not sure what batch this was. tastes of brown sugar, malt, spice, soy sauce and lots of honey. A little sweet for me, mouthfeel is sticky and kinda like a port. The alcohol is overly present, this bottle took quite some time to finish but nice.

12 oz bottle, 2008 batch. Pours a heavily clouded orange brown with a receding off-white head. very sweet aroma with lots caramel and some overripe apple and dark fruit and soy sauce notes. Flavor is a sweet mix of raisin and caramel with some spicy notes and a distinct but not totally overwhelming alcohol note. Dusty oxidized notes combine with the alcohol and possibly some strong bitter hops; it’s hard to tell exactly what’s going on in this beer. Not among the best of these super-high-alcohol brews, but it stacks up decently.

Bottle 2005 vintage. Dark golden body with a small off-white head. Aroma is dominated by alcohol like cough medicine (not negative) with fruit and spices. Flavor is sweet dry fruit, sweet malt, hops and spices with alcohol, I’m still getting associations to cough medicine. Complex and quite robust.

Bottle at home (jan 2010)... Dark copper ...thin tan head ... smokey woody fruit and caramel .... quite bitter up front... that one dimensional caramel vanilla thats so prevalent in these big sweet beers ... quite a lot of hop ... Very interesting beer. Full of flavor, though almost sickly sweet in its presentation. I can see why this might be such a hit with so many. Pours a very reddish-brown with medium head. Interesting beer, just not to my taste. Far too sweet!

21st September 2008. Batch #4 16.4% abv. Clear brown beer. Very sweet creamy start with toffee and caramel notes. Some red fruit in the mid. Finishes with spicy licorice crispness and lots of spirity warmth. There is also a distinct honey note. Sumptuous. Delicious!

12 oz bottle. Trying to review this without typos. As anyone who has had this beer will know, it will knock you on yer arse. Strong molasses, raisin, and brandy flavor and aroma. This is the strongest beer I’ve ever had at 16.31% alcohol. This is batch 6. I can’t imagine ever buying this regularly, but it’s nice for special occasions, like my birthday, which is today. Interesting brew. Happy birthday to me!
