Dark brown. Bubbly head. Chocolate, orange and a herbal note kind of like sage. Sweet up front, then turning to a bitter chocolate note. The hop flavour is understated, balanced pine and orange, allowing more nuanced malts like toffees to come through as well as chocolatey, roasty notes. I like the style in general, anyway, but this is a good example that maybe won’t get credit because of the small-bottle-in-a-seasonal-gift-pack format.

341ml bottle. Pours a clear dark brown with a red hue and a medium, creamy, long lasting, beige head that leaves curtains of lace. Sweet aroma of roasted malt, caramel, grapefruit and pine. Sweet flavour of roasted malt, chocolate, caramel and grapefruit with a dry, bitter, hoppy, pine resin finish. Medium body with an oily texture and average carbonation. Pretty tasty.

Bottle, advent calendar
Dark brown color, near black, medium sized beige head. Lean Brown Ale with bready malts, some rye bread, delicate fruity esters, and moderate resiny hops; yes, there are differences between CDA and Black IPA. Good beer.

Bottle - Roasty and sweet piney hops. Deep jet brown black with a rich light brown head. Roast and chocolate with some nice bitterness and hops in the finish. Decent.

650mL bottle, pours near-black with a small beige head. Aroma of light roast, caramel malt and some mild hop presence. Flavour brings out dry coffee, light roast, some woody hops and a bit of caramel. Quite dry and well-balanced, but lacking much depth or oomph. Solid stuff.

650 ml bottle. Pours a very dark red/brown with light head. Aromas of pine, grapefruit, roasted malts and caramel. Flavors of citrus: orange and lime, roasted malt and a little coffee. Nice though a bit thin.
