On tap at the brewery. Pours clear dark brown with a white head. Brown bread and dry dark sugars on the nose. Flavour has brown bread, dry dark sugars, some crusts. Very nice, rich, malty beer.

Bottle - Dark grains, toffee and a bit of booze. Clear dark amber with no head. Toffee and light grains. The taste is very muted and plain compared to the nose. Nothing particularly exciting here.

Poured from 650mL bottle. Clear medium-dark brown with amber tinge and no head. Aroma of toasted malt and mild nuts. Same taste with a touch of coffee and caramel.

Brown,small fast fading head.Toasty malt nose.Sweet thick malttinny & fatty with corn notes.Vague bitter finish,light alcohol heat.Lacks carbonation & head retention. As with many beers from this brewery, the bottled product is considerably worse than the draught

650 ml bottle. Pours a deep mahogany brown with light head of big bubbles that dissipate quickly. Aromas of brown sugar, sap, malt extract, and raisins. Flavors are similar with the addition of light spice. Sweet and simple, but not sure what this is.

Draught at St. Augustine’s, Vancouver
Dark mahogany-brown color with almost no head. Simple aroma, some caramel. Low carbonation (better this way), lean body; strong caramel flavor, with rather light residual sweetness; it has too much sucre candit character, and not enough malt follow-through (or not at all); moderate to low bitterness; traces of fruity esters and smoked malt.
Not bad, but it’s a simplistic Doppelbock.

On tap at St Augustine's, pours a deep dark mahogany with a thin beige head. Nose brings out toasted malt and some dark pithy fruits. Flavour brings out treacle toffee upfront, with notes of dark fruit and caramelized sugar in back. Sweeter than a traditional doppelbock, but the way it's crafted is much more enjoyable than the standard beer for the style. Full-bodied and sticky. Great stuff.
