Where the brewers at Bridge create Christmas beer.
But the pressure was on, they felt in a pinch,
Could they create a good Mr. Grinch?
They stewed and reviewed about the brew to debut,
then finally approved, this beer just for you.
It pours a dark brown, with a slight hint of red,
It’s a rich winter warmer that will leave you well-fed,
Notes of caramel and treacle - all things good!
There’s even a hint of Granny’s plum pud’.
With ho-ho-hops from New Zealand to add notes of pine,
And some soft Christmas spices, it’s truly sublime.
So if it’s some true Christmas cheer you seek in a cinch,
Simply place an order today for the very limited, Mr. Grinch

I’m trying to figure out what this is but I can’t put my finger on it. Tastes like a subtly roasty, slight fruity, watery Porter. The aroma is minimal, slight roast and sweetness. Hints if random fruit, and more light roast.

Soft dark barley aroma, has muddy dark brown body and tiny foam. Flavour is reasonably bright coffeeish barley and very faint cardamom hints. Mouthfeel is full enough but simple. This is decent but average, very average.

Bottle: Poured a clear dark copper color ale with a light brown foamy head with OK retention and some light lacing. Aroma of dry caramelized malt with some light grainy notes and dry fruits is OK. Taste is a mix of dry fruits with some dry caramelized malt notes with some grainy notes. Body is light with OK carbonation. Not bad but lacking some complexity and refinement in the malt bill.

Poured from 650mL bottle. Dark brown with tan head. Light roast malts, hint of caramel, nutmeg and other holiday spice. A little rough around the edges, but not bad.

On tap at Bridge, pours a deep dark amber with a small tan head. Aroma brings out lots of holiday spices, including cinnamon and nutmeg. Flavour brings out these spices upfront, followed by some medium roasted malt qualities. Pretty thin body and not overly complex, but certainly competently brewed. Decent spiced beer, but these are rarely my type of thing.

Bottle from Kitsilano Liquor, Vancouver
Brown color with brownish head. Mild aroma of fire oven bread, light anise. Off-dry but smooth mouthfeel; some flavor of roasted malt, bread, paper; ordinary bitterness; mild spice presence.
Boring; there are other ways to brew a Christmas beer that don’t involve spices and Brown Ale.

Medium brown. The aroma has herbal, piney, sweet character. Balanced bitterness, subtle herbs and a touch of malt sweetness. Pretty good, even tasted on the rooftop deck on a sunny afternoon.
