Pours dark gold into a willi. White head with good retention recedes leaving spot lacing. Pine and resin aromas. Crisp with dark caramel, resin and pine front to back. Lasting dry pine finish. Nice throwback west coast ipa.

My tasting of 512 IPA came from a 16 oz pour at Stubb’s Bar BQ in downtown Austin. The arrival showed a dark orange-gold liquid with a creamy, light tan cover. I got lucky with the selection. A moderate dose of hops, slightly sweet, plenty of maltiness, yellow fruit and a pleasant bitterness. The beer went well with the food. Obviously an old school version for an IPA. Good by me.

Had this one at Dirty Dog bar in Austin, TX. Poured a hazy golden-amber colour with a white cap and dirty lacing. Grassy hop aromas with some orange notes and caramel cereal malts base. Flavours are fairly bitter with the hops over light fruity malts. The mouthfeel is on the dry side. An average IPA that is not juicy, like most nowadays, not a hopbomb, but rich and grassy.

On tap at Gourdough's Public House, Austin. Pours copper with an off-white head. Aroma of citrus, caramel, pine. Taste follows nose. Well-balanced, with plenty of caramel to offset the hops. Good.

Tap at the Hyatt in Austin. Pours a copper and clear with minimal off-white head. Generally a solid beer but nothing stands out.

Nonic pint draft at the British Beverage Company in Dallas, Texas. The pour is a hazed orange golden with a foamy white head. The aroma is a soft resin, floral hop along with a bit of caramel malt. The taste is the resin floral hop of the nose, balance with the fresh caramel malt and also picks up some nut and pine. The palate is medium bodied with soft carbonation and a clean dry finish. Solid IPA.
