Blades and axes may grow dull after many battles, but the Hammer of the Holy only strengthens from the copious remains of the Undead in its wake. We take our Undead Party Crasher American Imperial Stout and age it in 100% premium rum barrels, resulting in Hammer of the Holy. Clown Shoes, check. Imperial stout, check. Aged in rum barrels, holy crap. Served up in the sweet spot, right down the middle, thank you very much. I have a bomber, 2019 vintage, picked up from one of my forays to Odessa to visit The Cellar. Hottest part of the summer, why am I doing this? Yeah, just because. The glass is a globe from New Belgium, more tastings from this one than any other. Sable black and a light topping of tan bubbles. The nose, divine of course, chocolate, booze and whole grain bread. But it is the drink that counts. Complex, I detect dark chocolate, tobacco, biscuit, a bit of charcoal and a small berry sweetness. The rum thing sort of escapes me. Not my favorite Clown Shoes imperial stout but very good. I would have again in a heartbeat.

2019 vintage at annual RIS tasting. Straight up impy stout with dark, roasty bitterness. Not much of the barrels coming through, although they could be adding to the bozziness and warmth.

Bomber from Cap Tap. Pours very dark brown with a dark tan head. Aroma of rum, musty wood, chocolate and very dark malt. Med ++ body. Flavor is smoky, woody, rum, chocolate and dark malt. Rum is very nice in level. It's not dry, but not syrupy either. The rum and heat serve nicely for balance. It's quite a tasty treat.

Pitch black, 2 finger coffee color head. Really nice aroma. sweet, a lot of roasted notes, some fresh coffee and fudge candies. The taste is very unique. at the core, it’s a well balanced imperial stout. decent sweetness with a lot of roasted notes. The rum honestly dos not overpower at all. present but not intense. would drink quite a bit of this one.

750 ml bottle, 1/14/2015 stamped on the neck, thanks to Adrien for yet another share. Aroma is very good. Nice level of roast with chocolate, sugar and hints of rum.

The flavor shows a nice level of roast right upfront with a base of dark grain. Rum compliments the stout which is not always found with a rum barrel treatment. Body is what I want in a stout, medium leaning on full with a nice chewy texture. Alcohol is totally hidden. Can anybody tell me where Clown Shoes gets this huge amount of used barrels?? Anyone? Well... I really enjoyed this!

Poured from bottle thanks Adrien. Dark cola color with tan head. Aromas of roasted malt caramel rum vanilla and spice. Taste is sweet and syrup like and the rum barrels comes through. This is a solid beer to cellar.

Bottle thanks to Matt. Pours a very dark brown with small beige head that lasts. The aroma is strong smoke, rum, chocolate. Medium mouthfeel with strong roasted malt, dark chocolate, sweetness from the rum, very nice.

Pours black into a snifter. Mocha head with little retention recedes to bubble rim. Dark chocolate and smoked fruit aromas. Thick with dark chocolate and espresso upfront turning to dusty smoked licorice in the lasting finish.

22 ounce bottle into snifter, bottled on 11/18/2013. Pours dense pitch black color with a 1-2 finger dense dark tan head with good retention, that reduces to a small cap that lingers. Nice spotty soapy lacing clings on the glass, with a fair amount of streaming carbonation. Aromas of big dark chocolate, cocoa, caramel, roasted malt, toast, toffee, molasses, raisin, vanilla, oak, rum, dark bread, light smoke, and roasted earthiness. Very nice aromas with good balance and complexity of dark/roasted malt, rum barrel, and light-moderate smoke notes; with good strength. Taste of big dark chocolate, cocoa, roasted malt, toast, dark bread, raisin, molasses, vanilla, oak, rum, light smoke, and roasted earthiness. Slight roasted bitterness on the finish; with lingering notes of dark chocolate, cocoa, roasted malt, toast, dark bread, raisin, molasses, vanilla, oak, rum, light smoke, and roasted earthiness on the finish for a while. Very nice complexity and robustness of dark/roasted malt, rum barrel, and light-moderate smoke flavors; with a great malt/barrel flavor balance and zero cloying flavors after the finish. Light-medium carbonation and very full bodied; with a very creamy, slick, silky, and slightly chalky mouthfeel that is nice. Alcohol is well hidden with minimal warming present after the finish. Overall this is an excellent rum barrel aged imperial stout. All around great complexity and balance of dark/roasted malt, rum barrel, and light-moderate smoke flavors; and very smooth to sip on for the big ABV. A very enjoyable offering.
